Today we’d like to introduce you to Shala Shamardi.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shala. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Interior design is a second choice of career for me. I had worked in the corporate world for years, but decided to make a career move that would change my life forever. To follow my decision, I went back to school and graduated in 2002 with my degree in interior design. If you ask why I made the choice? The answer will be “before I became a designer, my friends and family would always ask me for advice on design-related topics”. Helping people in this way was something I really enjoyed and most importantly it was extremely rewarding.”
After finishing school with honors, I established my firm “Haute Design Studio” which specializes in residential and commercial interior design and interior architecture. I believe my career really took off when I was invited to participate in my first Philharmonic House of Design. The space that I created in this design house, introduced me to so many people that appreciated my style and quality of work. They either invited me to do their projects or introduced me to friends and family who wanted to do something for their residence. After that I was invited to do more very successful design houses which resulted in being published in various magazines or even being selected as cover story for these publications.
I have been fortunate enough to win multiple awards of excellence from American Society of Interior Designers OC in Residential Design as well as Commercial Design. Following my own rule of doing my job with integrity and dedication, I have always pride myself in doing my best for all my clients regardless of the size of the project…
My main objective is to find out what the client is looking for and implement that in a cost-effective and creative manner.
To, me in creating great design, it is not just important for the space to look fabulous, but for it to be functional and long lasting as well.
I believe that is the value that my clients are looking for and that is what they get.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge to start my business was how to get into a saturated market without compromising my own values. As I mentioned before, this obstacle was taken care of when I did my first public project which really opened the doors for me. Also at the present time the challenge is how to compete with TV and internet advertising and offers. In this situation, my integrity in working with clients and level of service they receive is what they are looking for and definitely it is not something that can be found easily.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Haute Design Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We do specialize in both Residential as well as Commercial Interior Design and Interior Architecture. I am known for impeccable space planning skills and taking advantage of every inch of a space to make it practical and user friendly. The end result of all of my projects is a space that not only looks fabulous, but it is practical and sensible. We do use the most up to date items from furniture to lighting, accessories, art, building materials, etc.
What sets my projects apart from most others, is that the project will end up to be unique to the client that I work with not a copy of the other projects. I do not like to blindly only follow a trend. I like each space to be fresh but also long lasting so that the client does not get tired of it in a short time. Additionally, I do not want my clients to have the same details in design of a space that they have seen a hundred times. I strongly believe if they ask for my service, they should get something that’s special to them.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love about LA is the liveliness of the city. There are so many places to visit and so much to do that it can last someone a life time.
What I do not care for is the traffic. It drives me crazy especially when I have meetings and need to get to them but the traffic does not move.
I have come to believe that there is not a specific time for rush hour, it’s always rush hour.
