Meet Shakita Wilson of Crowned Mission and Enhanced by Kita

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakita Wilson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shakita. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a young woman growing up and becoming a young leader in my own community, I faced many challenges. I always longed for mentorship and direction while starting to walk into my purpose. When I was 21, I began coaching high school cheerleading and became a mentor to a lot of young women. I also became a leader in my church and trained to become a minister. I faced a few health scares and experienced a lot of loss that began to shape me and mold me into the person I am today. I became an advocate for Crohn’s Disease Awareness and began to work to towards accomplishing all of my goals. Over the time frame of about 7-8 years of coaching, I realized that there was a need for mentorship and programs for young ladies to develop into their full potential and have access to the resources they need to be successful which I did not have. The stories I heard from a lot of the young women and their mothers touched me in different ways or prompted me to become very involved in the lives of my girls and their families. That has motivated me to do most of the things I’ve done thus far and have made me who I am today. I also began to develop the skill of makeup artistry and created my business Enhanced by Kita, so that I can make women feel beautiful on the outside as well.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was not always smooth but it was always worth it. I had to overcome my own medical challenges but also create my own mold for something I felt was not created but absolutely needed. I think having a large vision but trying to find the time and the energy to put it all together in a productive and effective way is always a struggle. That is especially challenging for a visionary but I think when you overcome that part people will appreciate and support what you offer. So it’s extremely worth it to overcome whatever obstacle you face and to be the missing puzzle piece to as many people who need you as possible.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Crowned Mission and Enhanced by Kita – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My organization “Crowned Mission” was created to not only help young women but all women who’d like to be involved. My mission is to Create Resources and Opportunities Women Need through Education and Development..This year we had our first-ever Young Women’s Empowerment Event which was a huge success but only the start of many more future endeavors to impact Women. We unlike any other women’s empowerment targeted the next generation of women and the event was open to all ages. We provided resources and information on/for mentorship, mental health, healthy relationships, credit and much more. We plan to do so much more for women but our major goal is to start with the next generation!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our plans are to launch a major program for young ladies at some of our local schools that will be majorly effective and beneficial for them. I am also planning the next young women’s empowerment event a lot bigger and better this time around. The mentorship program is also on the list of upcoming plans and we are excited to pair mentors with their mentees. I also plan to continue to make women feel beautiful on the outside through my gift of makeup artistry.
