Meet ShaeMercy Perkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to ShaeMercy Perkins.

ShaeMercy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Nine years later and I’m still ticking. I am a self-taught photographer who started off in a strip club, believe it or not, taking pictures of the guest and quickly switched genres to fashion/lifestyle photography. Fashion photography caught my eye because of all the different beautiful fashion trends and model types.

My Love and Passion for the ARTS Merciful Photography was started for several reasons. But the main reason I started Merciful Photography was due to my only child being born visually impaired. The doctors always told me that my daughter would be completely blind by the time she reached twelve. When Merciful Photography began my daughter as about seven years old. In my home, we are all Art Lovers of some kind and I wanted to make sure that I produced really bright colorful art/photography that she could see and enjoy with the vision she had. She is now nineteen still with limited vision, enjoying all the beautiful wonders of the world through her eyes, and that’s one of the reasons MP came to light.

Once I began photographing the things I loved, Creative Directing followed and then that’s when I knew that MY EYE had a unique way of telling a story through my photographs. I’ve always been into several types of Artistry but Photography became my passion or shall I say it showed me my PURPOSE. I’ve worked with all types of lovely people from celebrities to people in my community, Merciful Photography is just that Merciful in every way were all equally human and believe that there is NO LIMIT TO BEAUTY!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a female photographer in what was once a male dominating sport of sorts, was probably the biggest challenge for me. Proving yourself as a self taught artist who is just as good as the professionals was interesting my first three years of business.

Also building your own brand from the ground up can be extremely difficult at times. I believe TRUE ARTIST NEVER SLEEP, and most of them are ok with continuous creating.

Please tell us more about your work.
We truly take advantage of the creative spaces within the outdoors. We adore “Natural Light”! There’s nothing like utilizing all aspects that are in your inner or outer cities. The studio setting has its perks that I like as well. but if I had a preference it would be outdoors roaming free. I guess it’s something about BEAUTY IN THE STREETS!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
The biggest lesson I learned is NOT to compare yourself to the next. Learn that you are your own individual artist.

People support who they want to support! Sometimes you have to be your OWN biggest cheerleader. We can often be our own worse critic …………. so -Why dream the dream when you can live it!

-Live in your Greatness and walk in your Purpose –

(no matter how many times it takes)

Revamping and Rebranding can be challenging but all it take is the first step by keeping FAITH in your back pocket.
