Today we’d like to introduce you to Selena O’Sullivan.
Selena, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I first came to the USA through my schooling. I was studying at the New York Film Academy in Australia, and got a scholarship to transfer to LA or New York. I picked LA, as I knew it was the hub for all things Film and TV.
After graduating I knew this was the place I wanted to stay. I made things happen to get my visas and began the hustle to make contacts, audition, train and become a professional actress and stuntwoman.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been smooth. Number one, as always, money. Trying to fund your projects, make them good quality, work other projects for free AND support yourself… it’s never easy.
Also of course as I foreigner, I have had the extra stress of getting a WORK VISA, which is not particularly easy in the performance field. But you put in the time and the hours, ask, beg, do what you gotta do and MAKE IT HAPPEN.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am what I like to call an “action actress”. I am first and foremost an actress, but I also specialize in stunts and martial arts. I like to specifically seek out roles that require the character to be a bit of a ‘badass’ and have action scenes! I perform in TV shows and commercials in regular roles too, but of course I love the opportunity to combine both my skill sets where I can. When I’m not acting, I stunt coordinate and choreograph for the film also.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being resilient, headstrong and not taking no for an answer! I’ve often thought or been told that this career is not a steady or easy one. But I’m here and doing it. I may not be rich but I am enriched by what I do. That matters a lot to me.
