Today we’d like to introduce you to SdotNoeL .
SdotNoeL, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began in my family’s church, singing, and leading choirs. Along with this I sang in all of my Catholic school’s masses and talent shows as well as traveling with my 3rd-grade music teacher to local churches and events. This leads me to a love of entertaining and spreading good feelings through just being myself.
Through remaining who I am I have traveled the world as a background singer for Grammy Award-winning artist Ciara, I have credits that include Kendrick Lamar (To Pimp A Butterfly) and have released My Ep “34” February of this year. Social media has afforded me the notoriety from the likes of Missy Elliot, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, and many others.
Has it been a smooth road?
I was born into challenges. my Dad left us early on due to drug addiction and my mother worked nonstop to move us out of the inner city which left very little room or attention for me and my siblings. I became familiar with disappointment and responsibility quickly. I came out to my strictly religious family at the age of ten and had no idea that it would make things even harder. I had to live with friends to complete high school after being kicked out as I became more of who I was and that lead to years of depression and struggle.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a singer/songwriter and a content creator. what sets me apart is my originality and self-sufficiency. I star in, produce, direct and edit my own short films and sketch projects. On the musical end, I write, engineer and mix all of my music, as well as write arrange and produce for other artists. I am known for my real-life stories, improvisational comedy, and soul-stirring vocals. To sum it up I specialize in being me.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love being from L.A. having a mix of street smarts and business has made me successful and I wouldn’t want it any other way. The mixture of cultures and different influences broadened my taste for sure. As for people who feel like they have to be here to accomplish this… STOP MOVING HERE. Rent is high, gas is high, and traffic is atrocious. I’m typing this with a straight face lol. For real… L.A. is not for the timid or impressionable. come with a focused mindset and an unstoppable work ethic and you can do anything.
