Meet Scott Morris of SRM Real Estate Group in Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Morris.

Scott, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After 30-years in the real estate and mortgage brokerage industry, I recently transformed my business model to include social good. My clients are my partners and my promise to them is that when they work with me they will save money, save time, and together we can save lives.

I am a lifelong resident of the San Fernando Valley and founder of SRM Real Estate Group. Helping the effort to find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D) is one of my personal missions, in partnership with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

I made a promise to myself on the day my son, Ryan was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes that I would do whatever I could to help him get better. That led me to partner with JDRF and today I serve on their board of directors and volunteer with their Ride-to-Cure cycling program.

Has it been a smooth road?
I believe there is a tremendous opportunity and desire for small community-based businesses to participate in creating meaningful social impact in the communities they serve. The challenge is although they have the desire they do not always have the resources (time, employees, etc.) to focus on ways to create a sustainable giving back program to the community. The challenge is to make them understand that they can make a difference regardless of size and to create a platform that brings together all community stakeholders (business, schools, non-profits, etc.) for the benefit of the community.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with SRM Real Estate Group – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am in the residential real estate brokerage business. Specializing in Studio City, Toluca Lake, Sherman Oaks, Valley Village, and Burbank. I am also a mortgage broker which benefits both the buyers and sellers I work with. Buyers appreciate that I not only help them find and negotiate the purchase of their home but I am also able to shop a network of lenders to find the financing. The sellers I work with appreciate that my mortgage background allows me to assess a prospective buyers creditworthiness so they do not waste time accepting an offer from a buyer that will be unable to obtain a mortgage.

Save Money | Save Time | Save Lives

Saving lives together: When I decided to transform my business model to include social purpose my original plan was to make JDRF and type 1 diabetes advocacy the primary beneficiary. What I soon realized was that although my family’s story is about type 1 diabetes advocacy my clients often had their own story or cause that they are passionate about. Therefore, I decided a could scale my philanthropy and create greater social impact by providing benefits to the charities and causes my clients have a passion for. In those cases where my client does not have a cause or charity close to their heart, I introduce them to nonprofits in our community that are doing meaningful work. In this way, I feel we are bringing community stakeholders together in a way that makes our community stronger.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
As a lifelong resident of the San Fernando Valley, I have witnessed many changes over the years. What I like most about the communities I serve is that there is something for everyone. Families appreciate the highly regarded schools (public and private) and close proximity to parks and other youth-focused recreation. All area residents including singles and couples without children appreciate the area’s ever-expanding reputation for offering a dining and shopping experience with a hip and cool vibe.
