Meet Scott Buscemi of Lumen Foundry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Buscemi.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Scott. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At the ripe age of 15, I started building sites for family friends under the name “Scott Websites”. Quite the creative name, indeed!

After successfully building a site for a band and a few businesses, I was starting to get more and more familiar with website development and learned about these things called “content management systems”. WordPress was still a tiny baby at this time.

Fresh out of high school, I founded Luminary Web Strategies in Scottsdale, Arizona in 2010. For seven years, I ran under this company name while I finished my Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems in 2013, a primary consultant for Easy Digital Downloads in 2015, moved to California in 2016, and became an official WooCommerce WooExpert in 2016.

In this time, I’ve come to embrace WordPress, WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, and the entire WP Community. Starting with WordCamp Phoenix in 2013, I’ve attended 18 WordCamps and WordPress-related conferences throughout the country. It’s a WordPress world and my embrace will continue on!

Last year, I moved to Los Angeles to escape the heat, and this year, I renamed the company to Lumen Foundry. I’ve narrowed our focus down to eCommerce specifically – it’s the most challenging part of website development and that’s where it gets really interesting!

Has it been a smooth road?
If you’re running a business that doesn’t have any challenges, you’re not pushing yourself hard enough. If your business doesn’t have any obstacles, you’re not innovating.

The toughest part of running a service business is the direct relationship between “supply” (developers) and “demand” (clients), especially when it’s such a close knit relationship. Even when we have a lot of work on our plate, we still have to keep open a few hours here and there just in case any emergency requests come in from clients.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lumen Foundry – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a web consulting agency focusing on eCommerce. For us, consulting takes a higher priority over development. In other words, we act as the ‘brains’ for web strategies, rather than just the ‘hands’.

The eCommerce world is complex, and even making your first dollar requires having all your ducks in a row. It might seem quite simple to copy the design or functionality of an existing online store or subscription site, but if you don’t have the proper marketing, fulfillment infrastructure, or sheer willpower to win, the business will not succeed. Before writing a line of code, we provide resources and consulting to help our clients make sure their upcoming endeavor has a high likelihood of success.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Besides the always-appreciated beautiful weather, I really enjoy living and working in DTLA. My bicycle commute to my office in WeWork is only about 5 minutes, which saves me the stress and lost time of driving for hours upon hours every week. Having access to wonderful restaurants and bars, a grocery store, and everything else you’d need in a few square miles makes life a lot easier!
