Meet Sarah Svetlana, Visual Artist in Glassel Park and Highland Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Svetlana.

Sarah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Art has always been a part of my life. Coming to this country, when I was 4 years old I grew up as a refugee, immigrant child from Belarus. It wasn’t always easy understanding who I was or where I fit in but art gave me a chance to scream when I felt I had no voice. The painting was always a therapeutic process for me, from start to finish but the moment I saw that I was reaching others with my art and connecting on a soulful level I knew this would be my life’s work.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Creating artwork has never been a struggle for me. The struggle was more on a personal level. I spent my twenties as a single mother while taking care of my own terminally ill mother. I was struggling with depression and anxiety and feeling completely directionless. After my mom passed away, I began picking up the pieces and became driven to move forward and not let tragedy and pain define me. Only then I was able to commit myself to my art and find my once very lost identity.

Visual Artist – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a one-woman show! I specialize in large-scale abstract pieces for your home. I pour my heart and soul into every piece and I absolutely love creating original works specifically for your space and with your unique energy in mind. There is not a day that goes by that you won’t find me in my studio, creating. This is my passion, my life and I am grateful for every connection I make with my art.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Very simple. Success is being able to wake up every morning and knowing you get to do exactly what you were meant to do on this earth. Money comes and goes and if you’re living your truth the money will follow but that definitely does not define success for me.
