Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Jung.
Sarah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved tapping into my creativity and working with my hands as long as I can remember. The process of building and making something from nothing made me come alive, and I often found creative ways to integrate that into my life. I spent 12 years as an educator, and one thing I wanted to instill in the hearts of my students was “Never EVER give up on your dreams!” And now that I have transitioned into the world of entrepreneurship, my heart is to continue to share the same message.
My dream as a young impressionable girl was to take all the art classes the world had to offer and to own a business of some sort. However, as I grew older, I soon forgot about my childhood dream and desired to simply live a comfortable life as a respectable person. About 3 years ago, a burning desire for more and something different was ignited inside of me. I didn’t know what to do with it and what that journey was going to look like. So I decided to come up with a solution and go on a mission to awaken all the talents that may have been left dormant. In that process, I knew I needed to transition out of the education world and step into an unfamiliar role as a creative entrepreneur.
A life altering circumstance triggered the relentless pursuit of my big dreams. On November 24, 2014, my friend Esther and I were on our way back home from Salvation Mountain, and unexpectedly a big-rig going 63 mph t-boned my brand new Prius. By God’s grace, neither one of us have a memory of the actual accident, and we both woke up in the car feeling disoriented. I was covered in blood with a broken nose, broken clavicle, and punctured lung, and thankfully my friend did not suffer any open wounds or broken bones. The car was totaled, and I had to be airlifted to the nearest trauma center. However, these were minor injuries knowing the severity of what should’ve been, and we thank God every day because our worst day turned out to be the most blessed and redemptive day of our lives. We are both walking miracles, and we’re choosing to live a life of gratitude no matter the circumstance.
Life on earth has new meaning and purpose for me, which is to celebrate every moment…big or small, good or bad. I am learning how to find joy even in the most challenging circumstances because I believe everything has a purpose. I am choosing to embrace all the ups and the downs with gratitude and take them as growth opportunities.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When starting with a blank canvas, it can stir up all kinds of internal conflict… excitement, anxiety, determination, insecurity, hopefulness, discouragement, and the list goes on. You have to be willing to give yourself permission to go through the process and persevere through all the good and the bad.
It was a challenge to consistently find people willing to help along the way or collaborate with Faithful Artisans because we were just starting out. We experienced many closed doors or lack of responses, which led to discouragements and doubts. It was also a challenge to figure out ways to make Faithful Artisans a profitable business with a consistent flow of clients and revenue. However, I did not let myself sit in those places for too long. I learned how to pivot and redirect my course to walk through open opportunities and take mindful risks to grow our business.
When we found the few people that were willing to collaborate with us, we intentionally focused on developing those relationships professionally and personally. As we celebrated our 1 year anniversary, we specifically wanted to express our utmost gratitude and appreciation for all the artists and entrepreneurs that believed in our vision and purpose. Faithful Artisans is what it is today, because of the support and encouragement of the creatives that collaborated with us in our humble beginnings.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Faithful Artisans – what should we know?
As Faithful Artisans, we have a passion to share God-given gifts with our ever-changing community. We are dedicated to engaging in authentic connections as we explore new and endless possibilities. Our hope is to involve other creatives and environment shifters to walk in faith with us as we empower one another to uncover hidden talents and transform lives one person at a time. We make that all happen through our purposeful gatherings that serves to give back to our community, our creative workshops that inspire people to live life outside of the box, and our celebratory events that are exclusive to each potential client so that they can personalize it with their own style and vision.
In order to expand the business and take Faithful Artisans to new levels, we are in the beginning stages of launching our new coworking space called As We Dwell. In order to cultivate a coworking space (emphasis on coworking without a hyphen) that promotes authentic and intentional community building, we will consistently engage in collaboration and provide networking opportunities for independent professionals, entrepreneurs, and small business owners. We are in the business of community building, and each person will play an active and pivotal role in making our coworking space sustainable and valuable. As a community, we will not just simply be a network or a space that has people working under the same roof. We will be a community that consistently works on improving the experience. We will encourage active participation, communicate specific responsibilities, and build authentic relationships. We want every Dweller to feel they are part of a coworking movement that is alive and healthy. As Dwellers work in a shared environment and forge trust, it will allow for deep and meaningful relationships to be formed on a personal and professional level. We intend to create an environment that increases inspiration, productivity, flexibility, and sustainability for each person that commits to a Dwellership.
Our coworking space will provide all the necessities to start and run a successful business, a safe and inspiring environment, and an openness for serendipitous happenings. As We Dwell is expected to open January 2, 2017, and Faithful Artisans will continue to host unique and meaningful gatherings, workshops, and events that moves along with our ever-changing community.
