Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Boutine.
Sara, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I come from a modest family; acting was considered a hobby and there wasn’t even an acting program in the country. Despite not having the means, despite not having the community’s support, despite not looking the part… I moved by myself from Beirut, Lebanon to Los Angeles late 2010 to pursue my acting career. Because when the attitude is right, the facts don’t matter and also growing up in a war zone teaches you resilience.
I had struggled with my weight ever since I was twelve, I didn’t enjoy being active and cared very little about my body and health. My inner conversation started shifting, for the first time, when I decided not to lose weight and instead focus on feeling healthy and feeling good. From walking to hiking to running, I started to appreciate my body for what it is. I stumbled into yoga and began practicing hot yoga, vinyasa, weighted yoga and restorative.
Through yoga, I accepted my body and started to feel the changes: from not be able to sit through a class to practicing almost every day. I knew there was power in yoga that I couldn’t help sharing. By 2013 I was certified and teaching.
Alongside my acting career, I had found a passion that keeps me sane, active, made others and me, feel good! I began teaching at CorePower yoga and transitioned to private yoga and group events. Late 2016, I had facilitated multiple teacher training in Los Angeles and led my own program in Mexico. I taught my first corporate yoga class that same year, the feedback was incredible! Not only from the employees but also company managers and owners. I knew then, there is a need for corporate yoga and I was already connected to a network of highly skilled yoga teachers that could fill this need.
I founded Yogibandits in 2017, with the hopes of just that. Bringing mindfulness through yoga, fitness, meditation, and workshops. To spaces, people and events. Enhancing the quality of our lives and our communities.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
“Smooth seas never made a skilled a sailor”. Each day I find myself still learning, growing and adapting to our world. Starting a business has its own set of challenges from legal work to company operations. Especially if you are starting solo, with a micro budget and no experience in business! Being an artist, business is not my forte, so working on establishing the company in the physical and virtual community was and still is a process of trial and error. As many welcome mindfulness practices into the workday and life, we still have to educate company owners and individuals on the importance of prioritizing and maintaining these practices. And though your intentions are always to provide the highest quality of experience, sometimes that doesn’t happen. Like life; some situations and circumstances are out of our control. I was so worried about making mistakes, errors or failing and now I welcome them because they teach you. You observe, let go and do better. The challenges, the obstacles, the struggles teach us to navigate life smoothly. Learning to sail the boat in the stormiest weathers.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Yogibandits – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Yogibandits creates space for wellness. We are a team of experienced, certified and professional yoga teachers who specialize in bringing on site yoga, meditation and fitness sessions. Designed for individuals, groups, corporate events and the office. The goal is to bring mindfulness to everyone and everywhere.
We are known for our awesome corporate yoga sessions; from lunch break yoga, chair yoga to desk workouts. These sessions are designed to create space for team building, reduce stress, increase productivity and even lowers some companies’ employees’ health insurance. We truly work on catering to the company’s individual values and unique needs. Finding what yoga practice, yoga teacher and yoga space would serve them best.
I am so proud of our extremely personal one on one sessions that have changed the quality of our client’s lives. Helping them connect to their tremendous power through self-care. Knowing that we give better, function smoother and connect deeper to others when we first take care of ourselves.
Every physical body, every individual and every group has different needs, desires and goals. What sets us apart is how uniquely we work with each one. Each class is made for the person, company and group. We are invested in you and strive to create a relationship that goes past a yoga practice and connects to the human practicing.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
With the world changing from one day to the next, we try to change with it while staying in the moment. After all, life is a moment to moment experience and these past months have been a true test of our ability to adapt.
We rolled out our very first online subscription, offering a new yoga flow each week. We can not thank our community enough for all the support!
Companies shifted to virtual wellness; from 20-minute mediation sessions to 30 minutes of stretching. All done through zoom! Making employees feel connected to one another and valued by their company has been vital.
We hope to keep these programs running in the future and are currently working and looking forward to releasing our online hub. Dedicated to employees and busy people, our hub will include a variety of videos from one minute to one-hour classes, including desk, chair and mat stretches and addressing common areas of injuries and pain. We are so excited to be creating tools that encourage our community to take care of their bodies, feel better and live in the moment.
