Meet Santos Silva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Santos Silva.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
There’s many beginnings to my story, ironically. Music was something I kept pushing off with a want to be “normal”. Working a regular job and taking calculated risks, avoiding the anxiety of being a writer/artist. Then 2014 came around… My first show was booked. I had one song released. I nervously performed it with a few unfinished ideas but the response was incredible so I put more energy into it. I had the typical songwriter story growing up: homeless, jobless, the ambitious all or nothing type just to have given up to be a banker in Boston, MA in ‘17… but when your passion calls, you listen. I quit a job paying me $75k a year, moved to LA to work as a busser/security guard and freeing my once busy schedule to continue my pursuit of being a writer/artist. Its been a year here and things have changed so much! Bobby V and his indie label picked me up and I’ve been booked in States I’ve never been in, met people I would have never dreamed I’d meet and we’re only scratching the surface. Life’s pretty cool right now.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t. I had trust issues, insecurities and doubted my direction. Its funny, though, what helped so much was this will smith interview I’d always refreshed myself with: He said “There’s a difference between the guy on the treadmill who’s better than me. The difference is, I’m willing to DIE on the treadmill. There’s no need for a plan b because it distracts from plan a.”. Just that alone met a million things to me and helped boost my spirits. Id recommend new artist to look for mentors for guidance. Even if it’s just a will smith YouTube pep talk haha!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As a singer/songwriter. I provide live performances and write songs/skits/scripts for locals & celebrities with a commitment to provide something unique. Im also working on my own stuff outside of my old artist name (smkrsroom). We’ve got 2 eps coming out this year and an album in 2021.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Lucks in my life is like a kin of mine! Literally my best friend. I have a very “go with the flow” kind of mentality. Like the winds, I am unpredictable. Always traveling on a whim and, honestly, without luck I probably wouldn’t be here doing this interview. Me being signed under management with Bobby V was luck in itself. I met his a&r doing security and trying to strike conversation with anyone who looked like they were about their business. The man said “If the stars align, and I see you again, I’ll take your contact info”. 4 hours later, I head over to the next venue to do the door and there he goes… and here I am with my phone in my hand before letting him in.
