Meet Santa Monica Illustrator: Amanda Penley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Penley.

Amanda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up in Georgia, I attended Savannah College of Art and design where I studied illustration. From there I discovered a love for graphic design and motion media. Immediately after graduating I moved straight to NYC and worked in advertising until I got a new opportunity in pop culture and moved out to LA to pursue the entertainment industry further. Movies and pop culture rule my world and constantly inspire my work and designs.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has fortunately been a smooth road. I am very lucky, and I’ve prepared and worked hard for it to be smooth sailing.

What are some of the influences that have played the biggest role in your journey so far?
I attended Savannah college of art and design in Savannah, Georgia, and being surrounded by so many like-minded, creatives set fire to my passion to want to get out and do. I would say that being in a competitive, and learning environment, not only pushed me to push my limits but also gave me peers to lift me up and keep reaching higher and higher.

What type of clients or projects do you look forward to most?
This past year, I created a deck of cards inspired by Game of Thrones. Although this was a personal project, I’ve been working to sell the cards for all the other GoT lovers. This project especially was fulfilling because I had such a response from the fans and a lot of buzz on the internet which really reinforces your mission and passion to make things that others will delight in.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
That’s a double-edged sword. There’s a part of me that says, I wouldn’t do anything differently because I wouldn’t be where I am today. So I think I’m going to stick to that side, I’ve taken a lot of risks and chances, and they’ve all lead to where I am today.
