Meet Santa Monica Hairstylist: Jen Beckerman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Beckerman.

Jen Beckerman has been making waves in the beauty industry for nearly a decade in Los Angeles. After 15 years as a singer and actress in the entertainment industry she felt like her life was lacking passion and chose to follow her true heart’s desire to become a hairstylist.

“I think the hardest time in my life was starting over in my late 20’s when I realized the life and career I was pursuing wasn’t making me happy. When I decided to pursue my passion in the hair industry I took the route of apprenticeship instead of attending cosmetology school. I assisted full time on minimum wage during the day and worked as a bartender at night pulling 17 hour days on my feet to make ends meet. I’d sleep for 3 hours,” she shares and says “I’d do it all over again! All of the hard work has definitely paid off and makes the ride feel that much sweeter.  I am so grateful for each opportunity, from Keying Hair for LAFW to the 60+ shows I’ve worked at NYFW to seeing the hair I’ve styled in ad campaigns and on the red carpet, I am truly living my dreams.”

Jen joined the team at the prestigious Luxelab Salon in Santa Monica, Ca in 2007 where she currently works as a Master Stylist and the Editorial Director catering to the manes of Hollywood’s finest. She has both mentored under and assisted some of the industries current top runway and editorial stylists including Odile Gilbert, Adir Abergel, Joseph DiMaggio, Cesar Ramirez, Jamal Hamadi, Kien Hoang, Amit Abraham, John Ruggiero, and Rutger to name a few. Jen has worked on numerous ad campaigns like Kenzo, Old Navy, Wildfox Denim and Reformation, editorials, commercials for Old Navy, Neutrogena and Cacharel, TV’s America’s Next top Model, red carpets, and runway shows.

“I received my training as an apprentice at Luxelab Salon a decade ago and continue my education with about a dozen classes a year from such industry greats as Nancy Braun, Jason Backe, Orlando Pita and Oribe. I’m always looking to further my artistry and education and am very lucky to work at a salon that brings in the best brands such as Shu Uemura, Kerastase and Loreal Professionnel.”

Her clientele has included award winning actresses, actors, singers, directors, producers, writers, including Marcia Cross, Olivia Thirlby, Allyson Hannigan, Alessandra Ambrioso, Victoria Smurfit, but she really shines because having worked as a Styling Educator both onstage and in salon sheis always giving her clients “those extra tips and tricks so they can rock out their style on their own at home.”

We’re blown away by her energy and passion for her craft – a shining example of LA’s incredible talent pool.
