Meet Sano Gramajo of Victa Fit Apparel in La Mirada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sano Gramajo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sano. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I had always had an entrepreneurial mindset growing up. Ever since I was a kid, I would sell anything I could get my hands on. However, coming from a young single mother who knew the struggle of life coming from a low-class background, I was told to go into the medical field my whole life. I figured I would go into the medical field until I had my business idea and then would be able to fund it. I excelled in high school, was a stellar student, and got into a great school. By 20, I was already a grad student at Chapman University’s School of Pharmacy. Meanwhile, I have had a strong passion for fitness since I turned 18. I started to grow my platform on Instagram and that made me realize that I can do something with the following. That’s when I was inspired and had the idea, and enough confidence, to go forth with starting a fitness apparel brand. As soon as I had the idea and began the process, I could no longer focus on school because I was too distracted. So, I decided that I had to drop out to give this my all.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. It is hardly ever a smooth road in business. There were definitely struggles along the way and struggles every day. One of the struggles was leaving my career in pharmacy to start a clothing brand with no support. Another struggle was making our first order of apparel without properly sampling and ending up with terrible quality products. Other struggles include designing apparel that you think your customers would like and then trying to sell said apparel. Other struggles are creating quality content and making posts every day, which is necessary to expand and stay relevant. Also, actively trying to grow your following every day. A lot goes into it behind the scenes and it is a lot harder than people think. They just see what is posted on social media.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Victa Fit Apparel story. Tell us more about the business.
I came up with the name Victa from the saying “Veni, Vidi, Vici” and it means “conquered” in Latin. We design apparel that is stylish and comfortable enough to be worn in and out of the gym. We are known for having the SOFTEST quality apparel. We use uncommon material blends that people absolutely love when they encounter. What I am most proud of as a company is how we started and how much we continue to grow and get better. I started the brand and ran it out of my bedroom until recently. Thankfully we were able to expand and get a small warehouse, hoping to continue to grow and provide people with quality products. I am also proud that people love our products. It is truly a humbling feeling to have those loyal supporters and people who give such positive feedback on our items. It makes my dream start to become more and more a reality. What sets us apart from others is our transparency and authenticity. We are a small local brand and I am basically a one man show. I like the brand to be a representation of me so when people buy into it, they know exactly who and what they’re supporting.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe there was any luck, good or bad, involved. I don’t really believe in luck. Success is directly related to how much effort you put in. That’s why I took the risk to leave a great profession to take a chance on myself; because I believe in my capabilities and failure was never an option for me.
