Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Lin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sandy. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
When I graduated from college, I started a blog to share things about my life. I always loved making websites and coding. Eventually, it turned into a blog with more of a fashion focus. My friend had started doing YouTube at the same time, and we both helped each other.
She encouraged me to start doing YouTube, and once I gave it a try, I realized I really loved editing, creating concepts for videos, and just expressing my creativity and ideas in that way.
During that same time, I was working full-time at corporate marketing jobs. I had a full-time job for about four years while doing my creative projects on the side. After some time, I realized the office environment wasn’t for me, so I quit, moved to LA in 2017, and the rest is kind of history.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. There were many challenges. When I graduated, I was working full-time in an office and trying to turn blogging/YouTube into something.
It took me two years of contemplating before I decided to leave my stable full-time job, much to the dismay of my parents, especially my mom. There was a lot of risk and fear in taking this leap. Moving to LA was definitely a struggle as well.
It was the first time I was truly on my own, making my own decisions, and that was frightening. I had no idea what I was doing, and there was a lot of self-doubt. I had many friends who believed in me, but I doubted myself so much. I constantly asked myself if I was good enough to be doing something like this.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I create content for fashion and beauty brands aka an influencer. I’m most known for my fashion videos and monolid makeup tutorials.
I am most proud of being able to help people feel less alone, whether it’s through my vlogs, sharing my experience, teaching a makeup tutorial, providing fashion inspiration, or just sharing music I find that people can relate to.
Because I am my business, who I am inherentlly sets me apart from others.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
So many people deserve credit! From my family who has supported me (despite not fully understanding what I’m doing), my friends, my old bosses/co-workers. They believed in me and my abilities when I doubted myself.
