Meet Sandra Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Perez.

Hi Sandra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It was freshman year of high school, the most important dance to any non-senior was approaching. My girlfriends and I were all getting ready together and I remember thinking to myself, “I want to do all their makeup for them.” So I did, and ever since then I caught myself volunteering my services. I still attended college because I thought that was the thing to do. But I just wasn’t the happy I imagined myself to be. So I dropped out and enrolled into makeup school. In addition, I pursued my cosmetology license at Paul Mitchell The School. Ten years later, I work out of my own spot in West Covina, California performing different beauty services. I also get the luxury of freelancing all throughout Southern California traveling as far as Miami, Florida. Many would be satisfied experiencing all that I have thus far, but there are still so many dreams I want to fulfill.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Becoming a make up artist in LA is not as easy as one may think. Make up was SO expensive. I didn’t realize how much time and money you had to put into make up artistry. I had no choice but to push through working as a bartender while juggling school and photoshoots. It was exhausting and being tired seemed like the easiest reason to quit, but I truly believe if you work hard for your dreams they’ll become reality. Of all the experienced people I have spoken to, it was the ones who didn’t stop who made it. As discouraging as this field was to me at times, I never let myself feel defeated or intimidated. I told myself, “It’s okay, there will be plenty of opportunity.” Safe to say that mindset has taken me this far, and I have had some of the coolest experiences.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
If we’re being honest, what don’t I do? I have never said no to an opportunity. If it’s something I haven’t done before, I take the time to practice and practice until I feel I have come close to perfecting the task to the standards of the client. Halloween is my busiest season. I absolutely love creating unimaginable things. I also get hired to do makeup for models and artists before photo and video shoots. In addition, when I’m not on set, you can find me in my studio offering a variety of beauty services ranging from full body waxing to hair and brows. What sets me apart from others is my ambition to be well-rounded in the beauty industry and easy applicable to any job without limitations.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is receiving text messages from my clients about how much they loved their makeup. Some even say they slept with it because they wanted to wear it again the next day. It makes me feel good to know that I made someone else feel good about themselves.
