Meet Sandra Kim of Wellspring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Kim.

Sandra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in LA but left to pursue my culinary passion and spent the past 13 years in NYC. I’ve built unique and wonderful relationships throughout my journey in New York, but it was especially during my years under the mentorship of Chef Dan Kluger and the late Chef Floyd Cardoz that I became dedicated to using high-quality natural ingredients because of their beneficial properties in cooking for the body. I worked to support local farmers, artisans and brands who mindfully grow or create ingredients and products with care towards the environment and our communities. It started with the food and drinks, then expanded to all things related to the overall dining experience.

I departed my role as Culinary Operations Director with a restaurant group in NYC to be closer to family here in LA, and soon after my job prospects were derailed (okay, obliterated) by COVID-19, I figured it would be the perfect forced opportunity to finally launch my own business.

Using the importance of caring for your team, vendors and brand partnerships as a backbone, I wanted to create something that would translate to serving our customers the best products we could find, keeping our values at the forefront. This ethos of course extends to what we put in our bodies, on our bodies, and allow within our home. Wellspring aims to make it easier to help the environment by integrating eco-friendly products into your everyday life.

Has it been a smooth road?
As a start-up e-commerce business, the longer lead times for delivery due to COVID have been a little bit of a headache. It was also initially impossible and still very difficult to find any small business loans and or grant opportunities. Other than that, I am grateful that the road has not been too much of a steep incline.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wellspring story. Tell us more about the business.
The goal is to make it easier for people to help the environment in their everyday lives while creating a company whose mission is to be a source of positive action at every level – in the home, on the body and – from within. These boxes can either be a one-time purchase as the perfect gift for yourself, friend, family, or corporate gift or even as an annual pre-paid membership to receive boxes quarterly. With each box you receive (or gift), you’re building more sustainable practices into your routine. It can be replacing paper towels with reusable linen towels like our Linoto towels, or integrating reusable spray bottles with concentrated cleaners by Public Goods, or even adding some self-care items like Puori’s C-3 Vitamin C effervescent tablets to your daily rituals. The best part is the products have been vetted so you’re not wasting time and money.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I am very hopeful, but with these unprecedented times, it’s difficult to say.

  • Single or gift boxes are $75 (beginning with our September box)
