Meet Sanctuary Media Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to sanctuary. media productions. Them and their team share their story with us below:
We created sanctuary. media productions almost a year ago, in March of 2021. sanctuary. was started by three womxn, dancers, and friends who were craving a way to artistically connect and collaborate—even though we lived in different states. Through happenstance, a mobile dance film was created remotely, shot entirely on iPhones and sanctuary. was born. We then created more dance films remotely, also shot on our iPhones, and soon realized we wanted to do this with, and for, other artists. We realized we had found a way to *eventually* make a living off of our passion -even if- we were not physically in the same space together. We started to slowly build from there and are excited with every passing day! While our story started as a trio, we are now a duo, AJ & Martha, and we are finding opportunities to work with different kinds of artists from all over the world. We are currently in the process of producing a film for a scriptwriter and creating a music video for a band.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road
Yes! The journey has been a fairly smooth road! We have learned to laugh at ourselves and not get too stressed out over the little things. For example, learning to maneuver the variety of social media websites has been a struggle at times, but we always find a way to learn on a very steep curve. As dancers on a mission to increase access to collaborative productions, we have chosen to learn an entirely new set of skills, from videography to editing. Now that we are closing in on our first year, we are starting to find a bit of ease and grace.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in visual storytelling through multimedia production while promoting the use of mobile dance-for-screen. Offering any and all artists to shoot on their mobile devicesand work with us remotely, expands our reach. Thus far, we have worked with people in various states across the US; also reaching as far as Canada, Mexico, and Indonesia. We have been selected for film festivals and worked with a myriad of talented musicians and dancers. We can work with painters, sculptors, musicians, dancers, choreographers, writers–anyone curious to see a visual representation of themselves, or their art, is welcome! We can provide creative direction, dancers, actors, choreographers, videographers, editors, access to music, the list goes on and on. We are also able to provide a single service to someone’s existing production. For example, If a client already has a production in place and just needs an editor or choreographer, we can fill that need. Unlike other production companies, we are heavily focused on collaboration and mutually beneficial exchange. We offer any artist the ability to collaborate with us for free. We really want to help other artists as much as we can, and that’s where our cost-free collaboration package comes into play. We want nothing more than to uplift, serve, and support our fellow artists.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
We here at sanctuary. aren’t big on luck, but we are firm believers in leading with guidance and intuition; with a strong focus on intention setting.
