Meet Samuel Sully of The New Workshop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Sully.

Samuel is a wood carver and fine art restorer. His passion for wood comes from when he was a child working with his grandfather. He studied in the most famous French Schools: Ecole Boulle, Ecole des Beaux Arts, Compagnons du Devoir. He moved to LA one year ago with the desire of bringing his Savoir-Faire in California.

Before arriving in LA, he had already worked for famous organizations such as Legion of Honor Museum, Versailles Castle, Historical Monuments and antique dealers, decorators, private customers, collectors. After more than 25 years working in France for worldwide projects, he decided to move here in LA and to enjoy the California way of life.

Supported by his wife Lydia who takes care of his fame, they both are proud of the road they made in only one year. Samuel works for private customers, collectors. He already has the chance to work for big institutions such as UCLA.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing is easy in life but… when you do things by passion, they become easier.

We had to deal with a new culture, new habits, such a huge city! We worked hard to be part of this new community and are very happy to have met so many nice people who gave us the chance to express ourselves and who trust us now and ask us as an expert for advice.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The New Workshop – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The New Workshop gives a second life to fine art objects. We restore mainly furniture (all periods), statuary. Studying a piece before doing anything on it is essential. We use natural materials and old traditions. No matter the piece, we will find the way to bring it back to life.

Our workshop also provides carving courses (from beginners to intermediate at this time). We will develop our programs gradually.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
After only one year of life in LA, it’s difficult to find something we don’t like. But we still have so much to discover.

First of all, we like people. Here, we feel at home. Of course, driving a business is challenging in such a big city and we have to compete for every day but we are confident because we believe that ‘everything’ is possible here if we just try as hard as we can.

Nature lovers, we also enjoy going hiking or riding in the hills. Being so close to nature gives us all the energy we need.
