Today we’d like to introduce you to Samreen Arshad.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Karachi, Pakistan. I came to the US to pursue my dream of becoming a Business Psychologist. After I graduated from University of Michigan-Dearborn with a degree in Business and Psychology, I ended up in automotive corporate sales. Instagram came much after in my career. Interacting with people, understanding human behavior, etc. comes naturally to me and it’s a direct connection to my career today as a Micro Influencer.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been everything but a smooth road because I don’t live in a big city where I’m surrounded by millennial who are all somehow involved in social media, online marketing, influencing, etc. Even today people don’t understand how I work and make money online. I have had to learn every little or big thing on my own. Marketing, directing, Photoshop, photography, INSTAGRAM, basically everything. It’s frustrating because it was a slow pick for me but it’s really rewarding today. I have no one to give credit to but my hard work and determination.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I started off as a makeup artist and I would share my makeup transformations on Instagram. Slowly my page evolved into a lifestyle page where my concept is “Wearable makeup and affordable fashion”! There are people out there with insane makeup skills but I can never be inspired by them because as a 34yr old toddler mom, that’s just not practical for me. I am a regular girl next door and I want to inspire others like me. I appreciate super skinny fit people for their gorgeous bodies and outfits but again, that’s not something that I can implement in my life because any curvy south Asian gene is not made for that two piece.
