Today we’d like to introduce you to Samira Far.
Samira, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The progression was quick! After I graduated from USC in 2004, I started working at one of the world’s most prestigious accounting firms, KPMG, LLP as an internal auditor and SOX compliance consultant. I was antsy to start working and was excited to be part of the corporate business structure, but I soon realized that structure that at first I was drawn to was also stifling to my entrepreneurial spirit and drive and I quickly knew that I could not stay at the job- my soul was expiring there. I decided to take a risk and after 10 months, I walked away from what many perceived as the “perfect job” to pursue my passion and an idea that I had in college – to provide a better option in the fragmented nail salon industry where the only factor of competition was the price. I have been getting my nails done every two weeks since I was 12 years old. I would always want the result of a perfect manicure, but could not stand the experience and wanted to get out of there as fast as possible, so it was clear to me that someone needed to do a better job. I elected myself for the position without knowing what I was doing and learned along the way.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, there have been struggles! In the beginning, hiring and training talent to create a brand culture was challenging. Today, maintaining brand standards as a franchise are still struggles that I work to overcome. But, from the beginning, I have always believed in the importance of mentors. When you hear “it takes a village,” it really does take a village.
Every good businessperson needs a good team of experts and mentors. My advice is always to have a diverse group of old, young, male, female, familiar with your industry, only familiar with their industry, etc.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I don’t see the desire to get a good mani/pedi going anywhere. Over the years, I have watched more and more “high-end” nail salons popping up, where in the beginning it really was only Bellacures, so I think the trend of quality nail care, and doing so in a clean, chic environment will stay strong.
