Meet Samantha Westervelt of Egg Drop Soup

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Westervelt.

Sam, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Our guitar player and my good friend, Olivia Saperstein, and I were in another band together but were interested in starting a thrashy side project. Our other good friend and drummer, Greg Settino, was looking for a band to jam with, and it just went from there. We wrote furiously and started playing tons of shows and making tons of friends and it kind of went from side project to main squeeze in a matter of months.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course there will always be little bumps along the way, but for the most part, we’ve been really fortunate with how much we’ve been able to grow in just over a year. We recorded our live EP, filmed an amazing music video, went on tour, released said music video, released our EP, started our album – it’s been sort of surreal. We’ve worked really hard, but we’ve also had so much support from the amazing music community here in LA and our amazingly talented friends who do things for us in kind; we’re so grateful!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Egg Drop Soup – what should we know?
Egg Drop Soup is a band serving the people with in your face, unabashed, feminist, humanist, thrashy, surfy, trashy PUNK ROCK MUSIC.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
