Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Elimelech.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sam. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always had a huge passion for writing and a knack for entrepreneurship. When I was little, I would wake my dad up every morning at 5 a.m. to type on his computer, and I would sell homemade products to friends and family up until high school. Towards the end of my time at UC Santa Barbara, I finally found time to reignite my passions, and I decided to start my blog, Why She Glows! I’m so happy that I get to connect with so many through stories and advice while spreading much needed positivity along the way. I have big plans to focus WSG on world travel and cooking (post-COVID), and am eager for that new chapter to begin as well!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m very fortunate to have had all the resources to help me build and continue to progress Why She Glows, but there have definitely challenges along the way. There is a big stigma around blogging, and many believe that others do it solely to gain quick fame and fortune. The hardest constant for me has been having these people assuming that these are my values, and in turn they don’t take what I do seriously. Sure, this may be true for some, but I work so hard every day to produce meaningful articles I think will help others and bring a little light to their lives while managing the marketing and SEO all on my own. And sometimes, this hard work goes almost unnoticed, which can be very disheartening, especially since I hope to make this my full-time job in the near future. Even though this breaks me down a bit, I keep telling myself to push forward and chase my passions, because hard work does pay off, and I know my values are true.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Why She Glows is my blog, or what I like to consider more of an online magazine, that I created to be a source of positivity and relatability for those who seek it. I cover everything from health, wellness, recipes, beauty and style, and, as aforementioned, I am eager to gear the website towards world travel and recipes post-quarantine! As a company, I’m most proud of how far I’ve come after learning the ups and downs of owning a website in the last year… because it really is very hard! But, I’m also thrilled I get to connect with others as much as I do, which is what I believe is one of the ways WSG is different from other websites. I have a segment on WSG called Girl Talk, where I actually welcome others to submit any topic or inquiry they may have. I have loved answering people’s life questions, usually publicly on the website but sometimes personally through email or messenger, because I created Why She Glows to have a positive impact on others, no matter how big or small.
What were you like growing up?
Ever since I was little, I have been very outgoing, quirky, girly and hospitable. My family and friends always tell me that my strengths lie in writing and in people, and I am working hard to build on these to this day by showing up for and connecting with my readers! My family also loves to tell me how I would just start dancing in the middle of a huge crowd at the farmers market or offer to cook food or to make a drink for anyone who came into our home. I have always found joy in making others smile and feel welcome, and these are values that I will always carry with me.
