Meet Sahir Champion of S7 Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sahir Champion.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sahir. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began my career in post-production, as an assistant editor, working for commercial editorial boutiques. I then worked my way up to become an editor; going freelance working for various ad agency including TBWA/ Chiat Day, Deutsch, Innocean and several other productions and editorial companies. After spending more than 10 years learning the ins and outs of how to really produce, I then started producing and directing anything from commercials and music videos to documentaries and webisodes as well as features.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing is smooth without bumps and bruises along the way. It comes with the territory. Being a freelancer, my work has never been guaranteed, which means I have to really hustle to get jobs. When things were difficult, I started to create my own jobs by going out there and pitching directly to acquire my own clients. As Bob Marley said, It’s a rocky road.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about S7 Films – what should we know?
S7 Films is an independent production company that specializes in creating various forms of content, including commercials, music videos, documentaries, webisodes and feature films. We’re known for working very closely with our clients to create a compelling story that brings their story or message to life.

I’m most proud that we started with an idea and have come a long way to create something that is alive and breathing. Each and every client and project is a different endeavor from the last. This is what make s S7 Films unique; we cater our message to fit the needs of our clients and stories. This provides for a very unique, immersive, pone of a kind experience.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
No one arrives where they are in life without some help. Successful people always have mentors and teammates. I have been very fortunate to have had several mentors throughout my career. I have a long time mentor named Jeff Richter. He taught me a lot about the business, by taking me under his wing and teaching me to edit.

I can remember when I was an intern and he was editing the video for the movie, Set It Off, starring Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett-Smith. He was teaching me to edit while he had a session with F Gary Gray. I’ll never forget how he took the time to teach me and countless others who came thru his door. I am so thankful for Jeff’s guidance and friendship over the years. Ever since then, he’s been my big brother.
