Meet Sahara Novotna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sahara Novotna.

Sahara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Australia to a Czech artist father who taught me to weld and sculpt, and a Persian mother who taught me classical painting and drawing. So, you could say I was encouraged to live creatively right from the start. My first really exciting opportunity was illustrating a children’s book when I was maybe thirteen years old and that was the beginning of many art collaborations and exhibitions.

After university my career brought me Los Angeles, where I built up a following and art collectors amongst musicians, writers, film industry people and celebrities. Los Angeles is such a hub of creative energy and I knew I had to be part of it so I went on to open my own art gallery and studio in the heart of Hollywood.

I currently exhibit my art across the country and overseas, my pieces hang in peoples’ homes, businesses and art galleries. As a visual artist I don’t stick to any single medium from metal welding, to glass blowing, neon bending, illustrations, painting and even graffiti. I see art as a way to voice my thoughts on everything from politics to pop culture.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve experienced a lot of self-doubt at times, which is probably true of most artists. But Los Angeles has been really good to me, I’ve built a successful career thanks to my fans and collectors. Nothing feels better than someone connecting with your artwork and letting you know.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a visual artist, you can find my artwork and merch online at You can physically visit my artwork at my gallery and studio (by appointment) at 1233 N. Highland Ave Hollywood, and also at a number of other galleries in Los Angeles, New York and Miami. I am best known for my ‘Money Series’, which were large scale pop art pieces that were extremely popular with the rich and famous. But more recently I have been working on the ‘Pill Pop’ series which are an array of resin candies filled with drugs.

What sets me apart from most artists in LA, is that I didn’t just stick to one style that was successful, but rather explore and experiment with new ideas and mediums all the time. I also love to get to know my clients, whether they are commissioning a custom painting or are buying an art hoodie from my merch. store. So, reach out, I would love to hear from you.

I also love re-imagining my artwork into merch., especially hoodies and sweatpants, but with what’s happening in the world right now, we were able to make face covers with my artwork printed on them.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
All of my favorite memories stem from traveling with my mother. The best education I ever received was experiencing different cultures and ways of life, and those experiences still influence my paintings today.
