Meet Saffiya Lakhani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saffiya Lakhani.

Hi Saffiya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started when I was about ten years old, finding my moms makeup and secretly taking it (makeup was not allowed at all when I was young) and practicing in the mirror, I had three items I worked with for a full look, blush, lip liner and lipstick. From a very young age, I was fascinated with art and drawing, so using makeup to create art on my face came naturally. It continued on and just kept getting better as I got older. By the time I was 18 years old, friends and family asked if I could do their makeup! My first bride was my little sister who was getting married I was 20, it was so exciting and I felt such a privilege and responsibility to make her feel so beautiful and at ease! I wanted more!

When I got married, I did my own hair and makeup and knew that I wanted to make a career in the beauty industry! Putting that dream on pause for almost eight years while raising my two beautiful girls. I went back to Esthetician school at the age of 31, I attended night school Nov 2018, 5 days a week from 530 to 1030pm, but not without making sure to have dinner ready and my girl’s homework and baths done to make it easy for my husband who worked full-time as a teacher! After passing state board and getting licensed June 5, 2019, I immediately applied to jobs and started at my very first Medical Spa in July, I knew I chose the right path! From then on, I became a self-employed mobile Esthetician and Makeup/Hair Artist. I pride myself on being a one stop shop for my beautiful Brides and offering Facials, full body waxing, makeup and hairstyling services. I also am a substitute/instructor at a beauty school teaching Esthetics to so many other women and men about how rewarding this career is.

During the pandemic, when things were at a halt in the beauty industry, I never gave up and started a YouTube channel to educate and help so many who couldn’t get services and many who dealt with Mask Acne and so much more. I am fully invested in what I do and I hope to continue to learning and grow from here, all while making people look and feel beautiful and be a strong female role model for my two girls!!!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been an exciting adventure seeing how experience makes you better and more confident. Not everyone will love your work, and that’s okay. There is an Esthetician and Makeup Artist out there for everyone. My goal always is to do my best while providing excellent customer service and satisfaction.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a wife, mom of two wonderful girls, self-taught Makeup and Hair Artist, Licensed Esthetician, and Educator. I specialize in bridal makeup/hair but love to work with everyone. I am most proud that I never gave up on my dream and pushed myself to go back to school and start my career in the beauty industry. The thing that sets me apart from others is customer service and kindness I provide to my clients, my main goal every time is not just to do what I am hired to do, but to do it while really listening and fully understanding what they want/need.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I didn’t know if people would love my work or if I was even good enough. But because I loved it and wanted it so bad. I dove in and took that risk. The only way I would be good at something is if I just did it!!! The more and more experience the better I became.
