Meet Sadie Alexandru Bodhi Brows Microblading Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sadie Alexandru, Owner and Brow Artist at Bodhi Brows Microblading Studio.

Sadie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a young girl, I remember many of my Mom’s friends commenting on how beautiful my eyebrows were and warning me not to mess with them. I can’t tell you how many times I heard: “They look like Brooke Sheilds’ eyebrows!” and “Don’t ever tweeze them!” …And then the 90’s hit. Drew Barrymore, Gwen Stefani, Angelina Jolie & even Madonna fell victim to the decade of over plucking… and I followed suit.

Over the years, after partially recovering from my own personal brow destruction, I became mild to moderately obsessed with eyebrows. My boyfriend at the time (now husband) would catch me spending my time waiting in line at CVS, redesigning other patrons’ eyebrows in my mind. At the time, my full-time career was acting, and over the past 20 years, I’ve appeared in over 40 national network commercial spots, guest starred on a few hit TV Series’ and even did some producing… and then I became a mom.

Once I had my child, I knew I’d want to continue a work-life centered around creativity but also wanted to find something I’d like to do that would provide more stability. Then, one day, it came to me: Microblading. I was thrilled at the idea; I could simultaneously help people nurse their eyebrows back to their original, gorgeous, fluffy states and set my own schedule in order to continue to be a very involved Mommy to my little girl.

This epiphany, or moment of enlightenment is the reason why I named my business Bodhi Brows. Bodhi is a noun in Buddhism/Pali/Sanskrit that means “supreme knowledge and enlightenment.” Not only did I have a moment of enlightenment when I realized what direction I wanted to take my professional life, but it would apply perfectly to enlightening every pair of eyebrows that walked through my studio door.

I did tons of research and decided to become formally trained by the world-renowned Aleksandra Maniuse of the prestigious Deluxe Brows Microblading Training Academy. I went through a battery of intense exams all centered around facial structure, drawing brow shapes, creating natural hair strokes on paper, practice on artificial skin, color theory.

I got my blood pathogen certification and became a registered body art practitioner in Los Angeles County and then began the on-site training. Now, I specialize in creating Hyper-Natural Looking Brows by way of Microblading, Microshading, Ombre Shading & Feathering. I’ve also gotten certified in Alkaline Pigment Removal which I love to do.

I learned that as a long time television & commercial actress, I know what’s it like to sit in someone else’s chair. I’m very sensitive to wanting to look a certain way and not having any control over the outcome. Because of this, one of my main focuses with a client is to make sure that each and every client who walks into my studio is heard and looks exactly the way they desire to look on their way out.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Microblading, the right way, and following the proper sterile guidelines while doing it, is a lot harder than it looks. There are many regulations, and laws surrounding this kind of art and getting them all down takes time. Opening an LLC, ensuring your business and finding a studio to practice in is all part of starting up which took a lot of persistence but overall, it’s been a really wonderful journey. I’ve been challenged in ways I never could have imagined, and it has only made me a stronger, more confident business owner and artist.

Please tell us about Bodhi Brows Microblading Studio.
I am a small business; I am not a big microblading house, cranking out dozens of clients per day to cover a huge overhead. I only take on a few clients per week, I take my time, I have more intimate relationships with my clients, and to me, it’s more about the art and making people happy. I’ve had clients in their early 20’s and even in their 80’s, and I can’t tell you what it does for me to see them look in the mirror after our treatment with a new air of confidence.

For me, I’m most proud of really being available to my clients for support. I know that microblading is a big decision and from the moment my client and I engage, to the moment my client is fully happy with the outcome, I am there for them; listening and guiding them through their journey.

As I mentioned earlier, I specialize in creating Hyper-Natural Looking Brows by way of Microblading, Microshading, Ombre Shading & Feathering. I myself, have more of a natural style. I’m a Mom and can often times be caught not wearing makeup, so my personal style preference is very natural or what they call “the no makeup-makeup look.”

My husband jokes and calls me the hiking, snowboarding, camping brow artist. I do however LOVE to do all types of brows. Some people like the very natural, undetectable microbladed brow, others love the dark, powdered, ombre makeup look; and I do it all.

My goal is always to create natural-looking brows, but everyone has different personal styles which make each pair of brows I do unique. I want to be sure we achieve the brows of each individual clients’ dreams on their faces because it’s their face! I’ve also gotten certified in Alkaline Pigment Removal which I love to do.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I’d have started sooner in life! 🙂
