Meet Saco Sarkissian of Petals LA in Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saco Sarkissian.

Saco, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got started in events very young, my dad had a catering company since I was 4 years old. After graduating UCLA with a degree in English, I decided to join the family business, then found my passion in flowers and design.

I started designing all our family events, and took on a lot of small events. I said yes to everything when I was just starting out, built a cooler for the flowers in my garage, and worked out of home for the first 3 years! Eventually, I outgrew my space, and found the location I am still in today. I started in the back unit, but eventually grew and now occupy the entire building.

I’m a native Angeleno and was born and raised in Los Feliz and have been here my whole life. I’ve always supported everyone in any way I can, and have a big community of friends here. Back when I started in 2009, Facebook was the thing. When I made this decision that this is the path I want to take with my life, I reached out to all my friends and let them know and asked for their support. Within days all my friends liked my page and shared it on their own profiles to help spread the word – and it spread like wildfire – everyone was asking what’s Petals LA that everyone was talking about! Petals LA truly encapsulates me, my friends, my clients who become family, and my LA lifestyle.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been an organic road. I started with a small seed of an idea and took the best care of it I could. I always focused on what’s in front of me and gave it the best I could. Every event, every single time. And I took my clients trust in me very seriously. I valued that my clients trust me to create an environment for them to enjoy and that they will cherish the memory for a long time to come. My integrity in every aspect of my life is the most important quality for me.

Anytime a business grows there are always growing pains – however, I’ve done my best to approach all my challenges with love, kindness, and an unrelenting desire for excellence in design and creativity from myself and my amazing team.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Petals LA is an event design company based in Los Angeles. We specialize in high-end, luxury floral design.

What sets us apart is our collaborative design philosophy. We are a talented team of artisans from all over the world dedicated to pushing the boundaries of event design. The word “no” does not exist at Petals LA, and anyone who says no, or that’s not possible, generally doesn’t last long in our circle.

At Petals LA we care about one another, are passionate about our clients, and have a lot of fun with what we do – and, above all, we have an abiding commitment to excellence in design and floral artistry.

Creating the towering florals for Rihanna’s Diamond Ball, for the first time in New York is one of my favorite accomplishments. The adrenaline, the excitement, and we only had 2 days to pull it off – I was so proud of my team for pulling through and making the impossible happen – and so dazzlingly.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always very curious. My dad fed my curiosity by always taking me to bookstores and always answering all my questions. I’m really grateful to my dad because anytime I had a question and I had a lot of them, he always took the time to answer me – he never told me to be quiet or stop asking so many questions.

And I had questions about everything, so I would always read illustrated encyclopedias and history books, and illustrated Shakespeare – and really, I was just so curious about the world I lived in. I was enamored of people and their experiences. I couldn’t get enough. I loved to play with my friends, but I also loved to talk to my grandparents and ask them about their childhoods and their parents growing up. I learned early on the wealth of wisdom to be learned from those that came before us and to always respect and appreciate our elders. I think this really helped me to live in the moment and never take anything or anyone for granted.
