Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Dorfman.
Sabrina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started when I was about eight years old.
Someone told my mom that I had a gift with words and I’ve been scribbling through life ever since.
I discovered the creative oasis of advertising and have been guzzling down coffee and big ideas ever since.
In most professional jobs these days, having “just a Bachelor’s” won’t work. I realized this while still in college. Extracurriculars and internships, networking and seeking out strong mentors have helped me get an edge up in this highly competitive field.
From websites to paid social media ads, copywriting keeps me busy.
Self-educating is also an important part of my professional practice. If you’re not learning, you’re not growing. I soak in podcasts and books in my free time during the week.
I try to keep my weekends sacred by taking a break from technology. Lately, my weekend routine includes hot yoga, hiking, Netflix and grocery shopping.
Epic, I know.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I want to meet the person who has made it through their mid-20s without some struggles…I doubt they exist.
In a highly competitive industry (as many industries are these days) it takes an unrelenting determination and unwavering self-confidence in order to “make it”.
Believing that you’re capable, competent and worth investing in is the first step to convincing someone else of these facts. This is the lunge you must take every time you meet someone.
If you doubt yourself, they will doubt you, and why shouldn’t they?
You wouldn’t go to a doctor that said, “I’m pretty sure this is the right medicine you should take.” He needs to be 100% sure in order for him to gain your trust, and rightly so.
Because I did not attend the elite “portfolio school” after receiving my Bachelor’s, I’ve struggled to wiggle into a high profile agency— and that is fine—even…great.
I have learned from boutique agencies who work with small businesses. This brings its own set of knowledge and skills that I can carry with me throughout my career.
Sometimes I get caught up in my future. I forget to look around, enjoy the moment, and be proud of where I’m at.
I’m doing okay, and 30s is the new 20s right? So I’m right on track.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I work for a Digital Marketing Agency, Salt Media. From building websites to launching social media platforms to keeping emails and newsletters relevant and in your inbox (sorry not sorry) we touch on various mediums to help small business grow their businesses.
Because we are in the information age, inbound marketing is an important channel for business to use in order to gain recognition.
With so many tools at our fingertips, we strategize to build brands and give them a digital presence.
What were you like growing up?
I wish I was more like myself now than the shy, sheltered kid I was growing up. Although sweet and respectful, it took me turning twelve to discover the spunk brewing inside my prepubescent body.
I began playing soccer at the age of five, I was always a tomboy, and always knocking down other players. But not purposefully I swear… I was just trying to get the ball, and they were in the way!
Skipping ahead, I was a naughty teenager. One of those who sneaks out to meet boys, doesn’t listen to her parents and insisted that my skirts were not too short, simply my fingers were too long. (For you boys who don’t know about this school dress code check—bye).
I was always into athletics and sports. I ran track in middle school and high school and played soccer until I finished college. I was not on the college team, but I played intramural…it still counts.
I always knew I wanted to be a writer, but I couldn’t be bothered to get perfect grades in school because I was too busy having fun.
And I don’t regret it either.
I did have a lot of fun.
