Meet Sabrina Acatrinei of The Giving Tree Treatment Center in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Acatrinei.

Sabrina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My passion for this field came at a young age when a close friend of mine died of an overdose. I knew then that my life would be dedicated to helping others find solace in sobriety. Never a big advocate of tough love, I want people to know they are not alone and we are in this together. The motto I crafted for The Giving Tree (“Plant new Roots and Grow.”) comes from a personal mission that has much meaning to me, as I believe the most important relationship is being honest with one’s self. And in my journey, I believe in every person finding purpose in their story—and each person I encounter is valuable to the growth of myself and others.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Taking over the facility, rebranding and obtaining licensure did come with a multitude of challenges. I’ve been working in the industry for so many years, opening, licensing and running facilities for others. Now, as a new business owner, I see it with a different set of eyes.

The process of re-licensing state documents has been difficult. Luckily, I knew many of the people I’ve worked with and it made for a smoother transition. Restructuring the program had to occur and I’ve added a wonderful Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist to the program. Our clients are ecstatic about individual sessions and beg for more. I certainly did have my moments where I questioned myself about taking over a facility and if it was the right move. However, each day that goes by something occurs which convinces me I am in the right place. The fact that clients keep in touch with me after they’ve left The Giving Tree TC to let me know they are doing well–and send me holiday cards makes it all worthwhile. I’m big on quotes and one that I always turn to is this: “You can’t calm the storm, so stop trying. What you can do is calm yourself. The storm will pass.” My storm has slowly passed and I continue to remain calm!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Giving Tree Treatment Center – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Giving Tree TC is the first step for those who are seeking help in breaking drug and alcohol addiction. Our detox/residential facility understands the necessity of making sure every person has the best chance of succeeding in sobriety. We provide a highly personalized level of care, catering to the individual needs of each client while offering tools and resources to help them grow. Our program includes Eye Movement Therapy (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eco-Therapy, motivational enhancement therapy, interventions, 12 step facilitation therapy and family behavior therapy.

Wellness is an important aspect to recovery and there are many ways to participate including Reiki, yoga, daily journaling sessions, nutritional counseling, health education, outings, along with life skills to assist in relapse prevention. The on-site chef creates options for vegans, and for those who are gluten and dairy free. The Giving Tree also works with those in search of a Kosher recovery, along with couples and pregnant women seeking treatment.
What makes us different is just the fact that every single staff member has a personal relationship with the client and they become a part of the family the moment they walk through the door! I believe the family dynamic is something that many of our clients or guests yearn for. Time and time again, families have split up due to this disease and so many have lost hope. I believe that family is part of what one needs to get the courage to start over again. I’m very proud of the fact that At Giving Tree Treatment Center, this is what revolves around everything we do. From face to face meetings with the physician to a specific detox taper, from an individualized treatment plan –to two one-on-ones a day, we customize our client’s needs, and tailor it so it works for them….Nothing is cookie cutter here which we also take great pride in.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are simple. As of now, I want to make sure The Giving Tree TC Succeeds as a six-bed Detox/Residential facility and that we are able to continue to provide quality care to our clients. My five-year plan is to expand into a facility that offers all levels of care.
