Meet Ryan Ewald of Covenant Doors in Redondo Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Ewald.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ryan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I had been working in the industry for a little under a decade. Originally as a technician and then later in sales. So having experienced working on both the technical and sales side of the industry, as well as having a growing family (4 kids now!), it felt like the right time to purse my dream of entrepreneurship. I was always intrigued by it and had aspirations of starting my own business. I knew it was going to be hard work, something I never shied away from, but never realized how much work it really would be. Things were anything but easy at first. I was working full time at my normal job, and at night when our kids would go to bed, I’d stay up till the wee hours of the night building all the plans, structures, systems, and marketing for the business. As time came to actually start doing business, I had notified my current employer at the time of my plans. Much to my surprise, they were extremely supportive and even allowed me to continue working for them on a “as available” basis as I transitioned- which was both a financial and personal blessing! I continued to work around the clock trying to drum up business, and much to our amazement great customers fell in our lap that we still continue to do business with today. Financials are an obvious struggle for any new business, but we stayed persistent and have continued to grow every year.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely wasn’t smooth at first, I think almost any new business can attest to that. Beside the amount of work, sacrifice, and creativeness it takes just to get things off the ground before you ever do any business at all, there are so many lessons to be learned for a new business owner. Amongst that there is also the financial aspect of starting a new business, which was a real challenge initially. But I’m a big proponent that hard work pays off and to always remember that perseverance and creativeness is what leads to success. I’m thankful for every one of those struggles, because each one of them is a valued lesson which become the building blocks for growth- both professionally and personally.
