Meet Runson Willis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Runson Willis.

Runson, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started performing live in 2008 after a friend invited me to play on their set I was asked to play my own. Since that day, I have performed and worked with small and larger acts alike.

From black Jesus & the experimentalists, young, old man, night owl players, Ana Rossellini, to Tropics, Kiran Gandhi and my newest addition The Holy Mountain. Ten years of following this purpose have brought joy, pain, and purpose in all, I’m thankful that God put it in my heart to do.

Has it been a smooth road?
Financially art is not the favorite place for anyone who has a dream to walk through. Spiritually conflicted by our own monsters and habits our doubt denial and demise.

I was heading towards a place of hurt. Allowing thoughts and the battles of others words condemning us to defeat me. All along the way, we experience the struggle in many forms. Love is what has brought me through. Hope in that love, in that eternal love placed deep inside us all — the root and going back to it remembering my foundation.

I’ve fallen many times but getting up has been the challenge and howling we stay down may determine our rise. I’m just a vessel, a vassal waiting to be poured out.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Art for me is a multifaceted color wheel of duties. Other than music, painting, print, and sketch has been a big part of my life my vision and my voice. From canvas to linoleum to print, I’ve found a way to share my world. My company is based on artists curating art and events with quality, sound, visuals, and arts incorporated. I’m most proud of the development in the community as an artist alliance and becoming a company people feel will help them and others with a dream.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
LA natives understand that, it is a part of you and that it’s not something you can walk away from. Nothin like Cali, especially LA. It has a story, and we all fit in a way that is a masterpiece and a disaster at once. I don’t like the wool over the eyes, the chalky fake residues that some ideas place on people or how we treat history here, how its collected by, but most likely unused to actually do anything about anything that’s affecting anyone other than, ourselves. Blows my mind.
