Meet Rude “Rudeness” Garcia-Campos of QueenofAngelsLA in Downtown Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rude “Rudeness” Garcia-Campos.

Rude, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Coming out as gay at 14 years old , I found a queer nightlife scene happening in LA from the all-ages “Arena Nightclub” on Friday Nights to backyard “Party Crew “ events for underage gays called “T parties” Its this movement of Clubkids Dragqueens and Trans Women that gabe birth to my “Drag Persona” These spaces gave me a platform to experiment with Drag and find my identity.. after 20+ years of Performing, Producing Dragshows and growing my skills in makeup and wigstyling. It was time to either hangup my wig and retire drag or take a chance on a dream of creating my version of “Barbies DreamHouse”. Inspired by shops like Patricia Field, and “Glamour Shots” I . thought to create a safespace where someone interested in the art of drag can experiment and learn the ways of drag life.

After quitting my Full-Time Job at MAC cosmetics (a job I had been working for all my life) I took three years off to organize and plan Queen of Angels LA with my husband and business partner. Queen of Angels would be a one-stop shop where Drgqueens could try on shoes, wigs and dresses made n their sizes without the whispers, sideeyes and giggling from the public… After a full year after opening our brick and mortar Boutique we have succeeded in our goal and have expended the space to feature a PhotoStudio and performance space for drgshows, Dragqueen story hour and Viewing parties for shows like Rupauls Dragrace and POSE on fx! We are an openly gay Latin couple living our dreams of opening a small business that gives back to the community that raised us. We hope to grow and expand! Dragqueens for a byter tomorrow!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not easy, it took a few years to clear up our outstanding credit and clean that up. It was also difficult finding a space with people who would work with us and our vision. There where and still are financial ups and downs.

Please tell us about QueenofAngelsLA.
At Queen of Angels we operate a retail business and Photostudio that specializes in Drag. We sell Makeup applications, Fashion, shoes for larger sizes and drag essentials like nails lashes hosiery and body padding. We are best known for our pre-styled lacefront wigs. I am most proud of having a space to sustain the jobs for our vendors in lgbtq community and POC. We work witj several local designers who consign their merchandise with us. What sets us apart? As of now Queen of Angels LA is the only brick and mortar DragShop in the USA!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from was opening my sisters Rainbow brite doll on Christmas eve while the adults slept.
