Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruben “MusicMan” Garcia.
Ruben, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Over the years of my young life, I have worn many hats, I have been a Professional Guitarist, College Student, Audio Engineer, School Teacher, Cable Guy and last but not least now a Computer Tech and Business Owner My Journey as a tech began out of necessity during my days as a recording musician, nothing ever worked properly no matter where I went and I was fed up, I had to learn how to fix it myself, the problem started with my old and cheap 2006 iMac that began to get slower, overheat and cras during every recording session. At the time, I didn’t have the money to gamble at the time on a mediocre repair shop so I decided to take a chance and fix it myself, if I screwed up I would have made peace with it. I ordered a tool kit from Ifixit and took an old TAP card opened my tool kit, stuck my tap card in the back of the imac to pry it open and got to working. I had found and ordered the tech manual online and ordered the fan and new SSD to install beforehand. Took me almost all day but got it done. Once my colleagues noticed the difference, they started asking me if I could do the same for their machines. It started with recovering baby pictures, changing drives, doing upgrades and soldering components. The jobs have only gotten bigger and more challenging. While teaching public school, I would also fix computers for my coworkers who would inquire during my conference period. After a while, I realized I needed to do this full time and finally commit, I left the teaching profession to start my business in Technical Services and my company MusicMan Engineering was born.
Has it been a smooth road?
My company turns one years old May 1st and has definitely had its ups especially during these difficult times with Covid-19 Corona Virus, however service to my customers has only been nothing but Stellar, 5 Stars on Amazon Home Services, Thumbtack and Google Business.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The city of LA (Watts) has everything at walking distance, I m a bit of an “old timer” when it comes to running my errands, I like everything to be walking distance. Secondly, I feel the sense of community here.
What is not so nice is that it is not the safest place to live and be walking around at peak hours, you have to stay alert and I always advise the most honest of people to carry something legal to defend themselves, mace, tazer, pocketknife, etc. God forbid it would ever need to be used.
