Meet Rowe Samieian of Rowe of Venice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rowe Samieian.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Rowe of Venice came about very organically! I’ve been a vegetarian for over 25 years, mostly for spiritual and well-being reasons. In 2012, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. I was offered no solution by western medicine and decided to take matters into my own hands.

After three years of researching my disorder and trying to find solutions, I met with a scientist and a nutritionist duo, who explained to me that my diet was lopsided. Most of what I was eating was turning into sugar: pasta, muffins, bread, fruits, potatoes, etc. By taking a food allergy test, simply changing my diet and taking the right supplements, there was a 95% improvement within six weeks, hence I learned first-hand that we truly are what we eat!

While very excited about the improvements regarding my health, I still had the craving for sweets, and unable to find what would work with my system. So, I decided to create my own. After creating the Coconut Super Snacks, I started sharing them with friends and family, no one could believe the snacks are made from only six ingredients, all of which they knew. The loving circle of support reminded me that there are plenty of people who would appreciate the quality, purity and taste of my creations.

That’s when I decided to start the company in an effort to share my story (and creations) hoping to inspire others to more mindful of what they consume.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I can’t say it has been smooth… however, every business has its challenges, regardless of the stage, the company is in. The biggest challenge for me was the amount of information I needed to learn in a short period of time, considering I didn’t know anything about the food industry when I started. I am learning something new every day which is what motivated me!

Please tell us about Rowe of Venice.
Rowe of Venice is a USDA Organic pure food company! All the product offerings are Plant- Base, Dairy-Free, Flour-less, Gluten-Free, are free of any additives, preservatives, or bonding agents, and no refined ingredients are ever used.

Rowe of Venice product has been praised for its texture and taste both at farmers markets (Mar Vista, Brentwood, Malibu, West Hollywood) when I first started out, and during demos at Erewhon, as well as events like Eat, Drink, Vegan, and the Cultivate LA which as you most probably know is an annual charity event that raises funds for foster children. Last year I was invited to be part of the Erewhon Experience, as one of their favorite brands and introduce my product to approximately 1000 attendees.

In my experience most product in the category have a funny aftertaste, the Suger content is high considering the plant-based protein or other nutrients. I believe in simple food with as few ingredients as possible while creating something delicious and unique. We start with raw whole ingredients, nothing refined, and make every batch from scratch, and that energy/touch comes across to the consumer.

The Super Snacks have 1g of protein and 1g of sugar per cube while the 4oz mini-loaf of Vegan and Paleo Sol-Bread have 16g protein and 22g protein respectively! Rowe of Venice Products can be found at Erewhon Markets and other fine health food stores.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I can’t say there is anything that I would do differently. As mentioned this all happened very organically. Not knowing anything about the food industry, which in some ways was a blessing because I was not bound to any particular process, so I just followed my intuition, tested the market and got great feedback, so I kept moving forward!
