Meet Rosa Shimizu of Kau’i Lani Skin Care and Eye Lash Extensions in South Torrance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosa Shimizu.

Rosa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Kau’i Lani, (Kau ee lani) in the Hawaiian language it means youth and beauty from heaven, it was an idea that was born while visiting Hawaii.

The hang loose attitude of the people and beauty of the islands with its luscious vegetation and their culture, so primitive while being open, loving and caring, it got a deep impression on me.

I had just completed my school hours for Esthetician I was also taking Lomi-Lomi massage lessons from the well-known sensei Tom Cochran and his wife Donna Jason while reading healing books from Serge Kahili King to incorporate this into the touch therapy of my skin care treatments.

Most important, I had applied for the Scholarship offered by Dermalogica, founded by Jane Wurwand, thru the International Dermal Institute. This beautiful opportunity to earn this prestigious award and additional postgraduate classes at their school give me the courage to open my own salon. I knew that I wanted to have the best customer care service while providing a safe, relaxing and conformable environment.

At Kau’I Lani we strive to provide exceptional customer care while having you relax and enjoy your treatment. This is our culture at Kau’i Lani.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Yes and no, at the beginning it was fun setting it up, painting, decorating, then the challenge was not having enough time allocated to be at the salon, having two jobs was not the best way to start the business. but I was stubborn and sure that I could make it work. so here we are.

Kau’i Lani Skin, Care and Eye Lash Extensions (kau ee Lani) – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At Kau’i Lani we love our customers and we love to make them look their best, either with glowing skin or enhancing the hidden beauty of your eyes with the extensions. We are proud to provide the best customer service in our area. Knowledge, respect, and care are what sets us apart from others.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Every time a client walks into our facilities it is a loving challenge, while we strive to do our best, every appointment is a success only if we are able to accomplish our clients’ goals, and this is our goal every day.
