Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosa Ponce-Rosales.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rosa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My interest in healing chronic pain began with my personal experience of it. I had lived with chronic pain for over 20 years. It started at the age of 12 and I finally resolved it by the age of 36. Along the way I learned to use stretching, exercise, massage and postural alignment. The combination of my own healing journey, my work experience and education all contribute to my ability to help others.
I earned a bachelors degree in Kinesiology/ Exercise Science in 1998 and started my career in personal training soon after. My niche was using therapeutic exercise and postural alignment to help clients overcome chronic pain. To help clients get faster results, I decided become a massage therapist. Over the next several years my career transitioned to mostly massage therapy.
In 2007, I discovered Arvigo Therapy, an abdominal and uterus massage that helps digestion, painful/difficult periods, and improves fertility. I became a Certified Arvigo Practitioner by 2009 and in 2010 I took their pregnancy from preconception to postpartum. What I learned in this class was much more than a pregnancy massage. I learned to align the woman’s pelvis and uterus during pregnancy, the massage evolves as the pregnancy progresses, after 38 weeks pregnancy techniques to help labor begin are included, and the massage can be done in early labor. It has been extremely rewarding to help women conceive, and massage them during their pregnancies.
The latest massage technique I’ve learned that has made a huge impact on the way I approach massage in general is Myofascial Release/ MFR. it has changed the way I perform Arvigo Therapy and deep Tissue massage. I also offer Cupping and Gua Sha.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Early in my massage career I had it very easy. Being a personal trainer gave me several advantages: my personal training clients became massage clients; I had access to a gym full of potential clients; I was in the gym at 5am and had no problem doing early morning massages; even though I was a new massage therapist, I had a high level of confidence in what I was doing that came from being a personal trainer
The challenges started after I became pregnant. I had taken a break from massage during most of my pregnancy and when I was ready to get back to work, I had lost most of my clientele. Also, having a small child changes your availability/ work schedule.
Please tell us about Fertile Hands.
I specialize in helping clients overcome Chronic Pain with a variety of massage techniques: MFR/ Myofacial Release, Deep Tissue, Cupping and Gua Sha.
I also specialize in Arvigo Therapy, a massage that benefits every stage of women’s reproduction including pain free menstruation, fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause
My business is located in Arcadia Health Chiropractic (AHC), a chiropractic office.
The chiropractor, Dr. Cassandra Sepulveda, specializes in chiropractic techniques that compliment my massage modalities. It’s a nice office that has a waiting room and play areas for children and offers child care during the parent’s appointments.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have gone to massage school much sooner.
