Today we’d like to introduce you to Rockit N. Space.
Rockit’s origins are difficult to pinpoint. He’s been seen in recent years around Long Beach. And he’s been spotted in Texas for an extensive period. However, upon the first encounter you will see that there are many layers to Rockit N. Space.
“I give all direct praise/blame for my obsession with creating things to Lil Wayne, Ye, 50 and the Neptunes. Can’t forget Frank! Or Lil B or Soulja!… that’s like the blueprint for me. And colors in space..”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been an easy road. My father was not around due to circumstances beyond our control. I traveled a lot. I always had music and video games though. That shit got me through everything. Anxiety is something I have learned to cope with. I would have issues and days where I would really feel alone. I learned to enjoy solitude and be at peace with myself. Once I was able to do that, it was like I unlocked something. Since then, I’ve been on a mission.
Things have been rough for Rockit along the way creatively as well. His name has been floating around for a while, deals have been spoken of to no positive result. And his style seems to be contagious amongst those immersed in the scene. The most difficult obstacle that has yet to be hurdled for Rockit, simply: the credit where it’s due.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
In 2019, Rockit created Planit. A faction dedicated to a better Galaxy. He is also co-founder (with Ihmiri) and member of the collective Crin6e.
Many see Rockit as an amplifier, a sound designer of sorts. When working with another artist, he never looks to make the project his own. He’s able to seamlessly travel from his world to yours, and the next. That’s why he’s Rockit after all.
Projects like Mood (with Anklesandwich) highlight this ability. As well as his joint efforts with Ihmiri, who are currently working on the third installment of their mixtape series.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The eagerness yo collaborate, the optimism I think is a blessing and a curse. I love everyone I work with and admire them and I believe we all make each other stronger. However, I tend to overthink my own projects at times. I understand to be critical and valid doing it, you have be twice as hard on yourself.
