Meet Robin DeMarco of Robin DeMarco Fitness in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin DeMarco.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Robin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
For me, fitness and nutrition have been a great way to stay in shape both physically and mentally. At the gym I belonged to years ago, a woman who I became friendly with often asked me exercise and eating tips. One day she suggested I become a trainer. I sort of laughed thinking “I couldn’t do that!” But she got me thinking… Why not? People always say to do what you love. I knew that I loved helping people (I almost became a psychologist) and that I loved fitness. So I took the necessary courses and became certified.

I initially started training at that very same gym. One day a woman called me asking if I could come train her at her home since she hated going to the gym. I bought some portable equipment and created exercise plans that people could do even in the smallest of spaces. She told some friends and then it took off. I realized that in-home training provided for people who otherwise couldn’t exercise (such as moms at home with their kids) Some people also needed the motivation of someone literally showing up at their door. (It’s harder to skip your workout when someone is ringing your doorbell!)

So that’s how it all began. I still occasionally train at private gyms if the client prefers. I also train at a local park.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It can be a struggle to accommodate schedules sometimes. Most people like to work out first thing in the morning before work, so those time slots get filled quickly. But God has blessed me with great clients and a busy schedule. I can’t complain!

Please tell us about Robin DeMarco Fitness.
I train and nutritionally coach people in all shapes in sizes with differing needs. I work with many special populations ranging from pregnant and postpartum women, the morbidly obese, the elderly, those suffering from disordered eating, and folks suffering from diabetes. I work with men and women of all ages and abilities.

The greatest reward for me is to see the transformation in my clients’ lives. Not only do the numbers drop on the scale, but their overall health improves drastically. I’ve had clients who were on cholesterol medicine no longer needing it anymore. Doctors confirming that they are no longer pre-diabetic. A reduction in their blood pressure medicine was now in order because their numbers were so much better. And of course, the overall confidence, better sleep, and more energy my clients receive puts a smile on my face.

I’m known for creating interesting workouts that are always new and fresh. It will be months before you do the same thing twice! I’m also known for having a balanced philosophy about eating and exercise. Look, I live in the real world too. Sometimes you’re not going to eat perfectly. Sometimes you’ve been up late with work or the kids and you’re not going to give 100% during the workout. But 75% (maybe even 50% some days!) is still better than nothing. It’s about fitting in exercise and nutrition as best as you can. Moderation is the key to success I believe. If you always deny yourself you’ll never stick with it. If you always find excuses to not take care of yourself, you won’t see results either. It’s about finding balance, and that’s something I can help with. I really care and I think that also sets me apart.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Playing “Mouse in Space” with me father. I was a big Muppets fan and there was a segment on the show called “Pigs In Space” where the muppets would be floating in space. My dad used to throw my little Mickey Mouse stuffed animal up in the air and catch it with me and sing “Mouse in Space….” like they did on the show. It was silly, but I loved it. I still have that Mickey Mouse 😉
