Meet Rob Shneer and Jamie Yang of Recruiting Pals and HR Pals in Palos Verdes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Shneer and Jamie Yang.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A career in Human Resources is rewarding and challenging. As an HR professional, you are expected to wear many hats – part Attorney (compliance), part Salesperson (recruiting), part Financial Analyst (compensation), part Counselor (employee relations), part Accountant (Payroll), part Engineer (Workforce Planning, Organization Design) and part Trainer/Coach.

One person can’t possibly be great at ALL of these skills!

After 18 years working as HR executives, we both had developed a good sense of which of these specialties we did well, and which of these specialties we didn’t do as well. And when we started working together (at a big company) we immediately hit it off – because we complemented each other’s skills perfectly. Jamie as the Attorney, Counselor, and Coach and Rob as the Salesperson, Financial Analyst, Accountant and Engineer.

As individuals we could never be great at all of those specialties, but together, we knew we made one helluva of a team. That’s when we decided to start Recruiting Pals and HR Pals.

We started the Company with one client on a short-term agreement, not knowing if we would be able to launch a successful, sustainable business. We developed our business plan and agreed that if we hadn’t added at least two more clients in the first six months that it was not meant to be. Fortunately, we found that there was a huge demand for what we offered, and nearly four years, 12 team members, and 100 client companies later, we haven’t looked back.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s definitely gone more smoothly that we expected! We’ve been fortunate to recruit and hire a talented, and client-focused team. We simply would not be where we are today without them.

Additionally, we’re extremely grateful for the confidence our clients and partners have in us – as their repeat business and new client referrals have been the key to our growth.

Certainly, there have been hiccups. We are constantly evolving and trying new things. But sometimes when we try things, they don’t work out – like when we decided to save money by creating our own logo and website – BAD IDEA! We just make sure that we learn from our mistakes – and now leave the marketing to the professionals.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Recruiting Pals and HR Pals – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

We’ve also hired recruiters with a diverse set of functional expertise, so that we are able to support our clients’ hiring needs across a variety of industries, job functions, and job levels. We find that we can tackle 98% of our clients’ recruiting needs including C-Suite, Finance, Technology, Sales, Operations, front-line staff, and more. And there is nothing better than helping our client companies find that perfect hire, while simultaneously helping individuals find their dream jobs!

Our Virtual HR Department (VHRD) has grown a lot this year too – as we’ve added client companies all over the US. The VHRD brings both tactical and strategic HR services to businesses of all sizes, without investing in a full-time employee. It’s a perfect solution for business leaders looking to get HR “off their plate,” for complementing the work of an HR Generalist with additional expertise, or for managing HR following the departure or leave of an in-house HR professional. We also help a lot of start-ups get their HR function established effectively, in addition to supporting organizations in need of an HR compliance review.

We’re a great fit for companies who don’t have the employee population or budget to justify having their own in-house HR resource, or don’t want to pay the high fees charged by traditional headhunters and because we’re virtual, we are able to serve clients all over the Country.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We plan to keep growing, but we want to do it at a manageable pace to ensure that we maintain the level of quality that our client companies have come to expect.
