Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Eves.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When some friends asked me to photograph their wedding a few years ago I had no idea how much I’d love it. When I was priced out of the Bay Area early this year I had no idea how much I’d love LA. Funny how life throws such excellent curveballs.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been tough but worth it. I’ve always been bad at self-promotion, but I suppose being an artsy type it comes with the territory. Aside from the aches and pains of being a one-person show it’s mostly smooth sailing. Being my own boss and working with great couples offers a lot more rewards than issues.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rob Eves Photos story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a wedding photographer foremost. I love the privilege of photographing people on the best day of their lives and helping capture all the small moments that add up to a monumental celebration. I love genuine smiles, emotion, details and stories. I’m so proud of all the couples I’ve been able to deliver photos to, watching them get emotional as they remember when they got to marry their best friend. My main goal as a photographer isn’t to create heroic pictures of couples in epic locations, it’s to take great photos the granular things that aggregate into the first day of a marriage.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think wedding photography is going to stay more or less similar to the way it is now. Cameras change and new technologies come and go. A wedding album is durable. It’s a beautiful heirloom. It’s irreplaceable and valuable. I just hope people continue to realize that.
