Meet Riselle Trinanes of Riselle’s Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Riselle Trinanes.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always loved the idea of creating something, bringing it to life, and knowing that there are people in the world using or enjoying the physical product. Throughout high school, I was always drawn to classes and activities that allowed me to be creative. So when I was deciding what to major in college, it was very clear to me that I had to pursue a degree in Art, specifically, Graphic Design and Marketing at Cal State Northridge (CSUN).

In 2016, my last year of college, I really pushed myself to get out of my shell to dive in head first towards every opportunity that came my way. I started saying ‘Yes’ more, even when I was intimidated or terrified. It started with taking on a design role at CSUN, to becoming president of the only design club on campus, to traveling to Europe, and eventually accepting an internship at Fox Global Creative Consumer Products where I realized how much I enjoy designing patterns, graphics, and style guides that would be used to sell apparel, toys, and so much more.

Using what I’ve learned from all these amazing opportunities, I started working on my passion project: Riselle’s Shop. At first, it started out as a social media account where I shared my illustrations daily. Then one day, I got an invitation to table at Designer Con with one of my designer friends— a light bulb came on and that’s when I decided to turn my illustrations into vinyl stickers, bookmarks, buttons, and enamel pins.

Today, customers can shop on my site for fun and unique pins and other things at riselletrinanes.com/shop.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think that with any venture, there has to be failures and successes in order for growth and learning to occur. Starting a business is no easy task. I had to really apply all the theories and knowledge I’ve learned in college into a real-life business, where there’s a lot at stake.

There are days when I feel uninspired and days when the ideas come rushing in— I get so excited to just create! I had to learn that success is not a straight line. There will always be ups and downs, but the best thing I can do is learn from every mistake, move forward, and challenge myself.

I’m constantly learning ways to improve my craft, and personal growth is very important to me. I’m incredibly fortunate to have my family, boyfriend, and long-time friends as my support system. They inspire me!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Riselle’s Shop – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Riselle’s Shop is a novelty shop that specializes in enamel pins and vinyl stickers. I’m best known for my chubby animal characters and glow-in-the-dark enamel pins. I also love putting my own twist on some of my favorite characters from my childhood, like Magikarp and Resetti.

I’m most proud of my customer service. I place a lot of value on customer experience, and ultimately, I think this is what sets me apart from others – from packaging to personalization, it’s all intentional and remain top of mind.

Transparency is one of my key values— it’s not just about making money, it’s also treating customers the same way I’d like to be treated. After all, I wouldn’t be where I am without the people that support my work and invest in me.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I would like to expand my brand to include toys and apparel. I also plan on participating in more in-person events, like pop-ups and conventions.

In the near future, I’ll be participating in a couple of events:
AIGA’s “Grow” event (September 25, 6:30pm – 9:30pm), The Reseda Rising Artwalk and Night Market (September 29, 5 pm – 10 pm), DesignerCon 2018 (November 16-18), and Patches & Pins Expo (December 8).

I love meeting and interacting with my customers in person, so I hope to see them there!
