Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Crockett.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a former athlete so I’ve always been into fitness. My training career started because I was approached by several individuals while I was working out at a gym. People would approach me asking if I was a trainer and I would respond saying ‘no’. Months later, I was continuously asked the same question.
One day, I decided to take a potential client up on her offer. I trained a young lady in a park for free because I didn’t feel comfortable charging someone for something I had never done before. This same woman would invite her friends and we ultimately developed group training. At this moment, I made the decision to get certified as a personal trainer.
After receiving my certification, I made the move to 24-hour fitness as a trainer. I worked at there for five months before starting my business, Rock Sculpted Fitness. I contacted a local private gym owner and established my business in Pasadena, where I’m still located.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, not at all. The road is always rough to run a successful business. This is due to the fact that you don’t have the luxury of knowing that you will receive a check every two weeks. This is where you really begin to develop budgeting skills. For example, during the holidays, clients often stop training for various reasons. It is important to overcome those obstacles and help clients stay motivated on their fitness goals year-round.
Another struggle is identifying ways to turn interested individuals into potential clients.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rock Sculpted Fitness – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Rock Sculpted Fitness is a boutique studio that offers one-on-one and group personal training in the Los Angeles and surrounding areas. As the founder of Rock Sculpted Fitness, I tap into my numerous years of sports and fitness training to create a personalized program that meets a person’s health and fitness goals. Training sessions are normally 60 minutes. There is 30-minute sessions and online training available as well.
As I reflect on my business and its growth, I liken it to having a baby. Running your business is your baby. You will give all the ideas to this baby and nurture it until it begins to take a life of its own. Eventually, because of all of the consistency, determination and persistence, your business begins to grow. When this happens, you will have something to be proud of because, at the end of the day, this is your vision. I’m grateful for the ability to continuously innovate fitness training so that my clients are happy. I am even more thankful for the opportunity to expand the dynamic of a trainer-client relationship into authentic friendships.
What sets me apart is my ability to not put myself in a box. I don’t believe in saying I specialize in a certain type of training. What I do is specialize in meeting my client’s needs.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the community in Pasadena because it is such a welcoming place. Pasadena has great opportunity to run a small business because it’s not a very big city. There are also plenty of activities to engage in, which means you don’t necessarily have to travel to another city to have a great time or visit a beautiful restaurant. Another plus is that there is less traffic especially when traveling to another city.
