Meet Rickie Gole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rickie Gole.

Rickie, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a trained classical singer, with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music, I came to Los Angeles for symphonic and operatic work. And… I did a lot of singing. Once married, I realized how important having a family was to me. I knew that to do this properly, touring and extensive travel, just wouldn’t cut it. At the suggestion of my then-husband, I began to teach voice. I had the best situation of all. I could continue to create through music, be a hands-on mom and sing when possible.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles along the way were about building the studio. I was able to begin by paying another teacher for referrals. I was lucky that my work was going well and my studio grew through referrals.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I teach private voice lessons from my home. My specialty is customizing my exercises and technical expertise to each student. I am likely a chef needing to write a specific recipe for what comes to me naturally or like a tailor who uses the same material, but must make it fit the different bodies who enter his shop. As much as I hated practicing the piano as a child, I am grateful to my parents who encouraged me, as I am able to accompany my students, as we work on repertoire or audition material.

I also am blessed with an extensive library of music that students can select from. I love to work with students in preparing for auditions, cutting music, building audition book. I work in a very positive way. Singing is an expression of the heart and soul and must be treated delicately to encourage the amateur as well as professional attain their goals.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood was saving all my allowance to buy a guitar, teach myself the chords and express myself through folk music. That’s where the journey began.
