Meet Richard Thorpe of Ella Bee Media Group in Downtown LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Thorpe.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Richard. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got my hustler and entrepreneurial spirit from watching my dad try to start his own business from the ground up. Watching the ups and downs and the process of building something from the ground up always stuck with me.

As I grew older and matriculated through college, I kept those same lessons I learned about building a business and mixed it with my passion of music, sports, and love of technology. In my junior year of college, around 2009 I decided to follow my passion, bet on myself and starting my own business.

Now over 10+ years later I own a marketing and media company Ella Bee Media Group, having been able to work with some of the worlds largest brands, work on four different Olympic Games, and help manage the brands of incredible athletes, artists, and organizations.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to success was definitely a bumpy and winding road.

In the early stages of starting the company, one of our biggest challenges we experienced was funding operations and getting our network of contacts and potential clients to believe that we could deliver as a boutique agency.

We were self-funded and had to be very strategic and calculated with our approach to the clients we worked with to the type of opportunities we pursued. Sometimes that meant not pursuing the biggest clients in exchange for building and growing with emerging talent

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ella Bee Media Group – what should we know?
We are a full-service marketing and new media company that focuses talent marketing, digital brand management, and influencer partnerships for clients in the sports, entertainment and technology sectors.

We’re most proud of the work, campaigns, and stories we’ve been able to tell and execute for our clients over the past nine years.

We’ve been fortunate enough to work on four Olympic Games, several Super Bowls, FIFA World Cups and execute brand activations for amazing athletes, artists, and influencers.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
In order to succeed in business, you have to surround yourself with a network of people that’s going to support, mentor and guide you along the way.

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my business partner Lila Brown and the amazing clients I’ve been able to work with. They believed in the vision and never once doubted how successful we could be.
