Meet Richard Grob

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Grob.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Richard. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was a child I couldn’t speak clearly because I have dysphasia. So, I decided to speak by my drawings. Since then I knew what I wanted to do in my future life: working in the cinema industry. After I have been graduated in my high school in Switzerland, I went to a cinema school (ESEC) in Paris. Thanks to this school I could learn and discovered awesome filmmakers. I also discovered the editing and I don’t know why I was very passionate of trailers. Then after I’ve been graduate, I went to Los Angeles for doing my master degree in New York Film Academy. In this school I have been doing a lot editing. It confirmed what I really want to do: editing trailers. After my graduation, as a freelance I have been editing a lot of trailer for short films.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Because of my dysphasia, it’s been a heavy road. I couldn’t speak clearly but also; I couldn’t understand what people are saying. I remember some teachers thought I was a student who didn’t care of the education. I’m just slower than the others. But these challenges brought experiences but also a lot of imagination which now I use a lot in the cinema industry. For me working in this industry, it’s more than a job… it’s something that allows me to speak and share my vision which I wanted to tell since I was a kid.

Please tell us about your work.
As a freelance, I’m working as an editor for short film and trailer. I’m in the beginning of a new road. I’m more known for doing trailers but also special effects especially text animation which I did for a lot of shorts and web series.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Be where I am now make me realize one thing: be proud who you are. Dysphasia is my burden and it will be there for the rest of my life but it brought a new vision of the world which I want to share by making films and by doing editing.
