Meet Ricardo Martinez-Doroteo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricardo Martinez-Doroteo.

Ricardo, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My introduction to art began in high school. I attended a visual and performing arts high school where I took multiple art classes. Here I met a variety of talented artist and over the years, I became an artist myself thanks to La Moin Garrard and Julie McManus, I wouldn’t be here without them.

Has it been a smooth road?
The main struggle I faced was my own internal struggle. I often feel my confidence diminishing and overwhelm myself more than I’d like to. It became a real struggle the last year of high school but I learned from it. I often take small breaks from drawing or painting to clear my mind and help relieve stress.

Please tell us more about your art.
I’m honored to have a growing commissioned based business and appreciate every person who decides to hire me. I’m known for drawing and painting but my specialty is ballpoint pen drawings. I like to contrast that ballpoint pen provides which allows me to have emphasis on detail.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Downtown L.A. has incredible art all around. Some could be peeling off or could be brand new, but all art in the city has significance from different time periods.
