Today we’d like to introduce you to Rheling Wei.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rheling. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born & raised in sunny California where fashion really thrives! My mother was a pattern maker during my childhood in DTLA and that’s where my love for fashion really grew. When I graduated high school, I decided to work full time and go to community college with no real end goal. I knew I wanted to pursue my career in the fashion industry and knew community college wasn’t going to cut it. I started to research fashion schools and I happened to know someone who was transferring from FIDM to The Art Institute of Hollywood- CA. She mentioned it was a better option (cost-wise) compared to FIDM. I decided to apply, got accepted, and went all in! During my time in school I worked as a Production Assistant part time and soaked in all the knowledge I could. I was able to learn the tools, make connections and learn how to navigate through this industry. Years and a bunch of design & production jobs later I realized I didn’t necessarily like the production side of the industry. I have a major obsession for thrifting and I knew I wanted to create outfits and make people feel their very best all through clothes! That’s literally all I wanted to do, so I just went for it! Fast forward to now, I have expanded my fashion career as a Personal Stylist and currently own and operate an e-boutique called Hür Closet.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been the smoothest road however, prior to Hür Closet I did have my own clothing brand and I went through A LOT of trial and error. Now with Hür Closet I won’t say I know everything but I sure know how to run and operate an online business more than I ever did before! I also learned a lot from my parents. I’m a first generation Asian-American. My Mom grew up in Myanmar and my Dad in China. They were both well educated, successful college professors in China but when they came here, none of that mattered. Watching them figure out how to build a life for us in America definitely taught me a lot about how to drive and hustle for what you want.
Please tell us about your business.
Hür Closet is owned and operated by my business partner Sara and I. We sell pre-loved pieces all while being nicer to our planet! Both of us share a major obsession for thrifting and prior to Hür Closet we both were and still are resellers on social platforms. Our goal is to make it easier for you to get the best pre-loved pieces and leave the sourcing to us! We are dedicated to finding the best items for you and want our carefully curated selections to become an effortless and timeless addition to your wardrobe! Hür Closet is proud to be able to provide pre-loved pieces to people and help keep our planet sustainable all through clothing! What sets us apart is we are a fully female owned and operated e-boutique and we care about the pieces we sell. We aren’t just some other thrift boutique, we actually care about you, clothing, and the planet.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love everything about our city besides traffic, standing in lines during COVID, and pot holes.
