Today we’d like to introduce you to Reyna Dave.
Reyna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We started in 2011 after a conversation between a few teacher friends and myself; wouldn’t it be great if we could help our students develop certain skills that — as educators– we knew required individualized attention? Thus, we set out to provide these valuable skills outside of school hours. Our success rate was tremendous!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our initial goal was to become a community resource as opposed to a “tutoring center”. However, we were surprised at the amount of red tape required to provide free services to various organizations in our immediate community. By no means did we feel any of this was on a personal basis, however! Simply put, there are rules and regulations in place that often delayed many of the free educational opportunities we provide, free of charge.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Learning Period – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a collective of credentialed teachers that funds free tutoring and other services to community organizations via the proceeds we bring in from paid tutoring services.
Essentially, we’re a social enterprise that does community work without having to rely on outside grants or various other funding sources.
Our free services run the K-12 gamut; the most oft-requested service is academic tutoring, though we often pair that with executive-functioning content to help students take control of their own learning. Our paying customers typically request higher level math and science tutoring in courses such as physics, calculus, and so forth.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We certainly intend to offer our services within a large radius of our location!
