Meet Renee Molenda of NayNay’s Tacos in Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Molenda.

Renee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been a foodie and with a passion for healthy and flavorful food. I started making tacos a few years ago when late night cravings would lead my friends to taco trucks and leave me without vegan tacos so I started making my own. The more I got into health and fitness it made me want to share my passion for good food with people so I thought of what I make most often and what everyone loves and it turned out be tacos.

Once I solidified my menu, I held a huge taco tasting party at my place to launch my catering service. For the past year, I have been a vendor and catered events at places like gyms, house parties, yoga studios, and even sponsored a red carpet event in Hollywood. Social media has helped me gain attraction and most importantly word of mouth has helped to grow my business to where it is today.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. As an entrepreneur you have to educate yourself on everything you possibly can, but also be ok with not really knowing what you’re doing and figuring things out along the way. Some struggles have been finding the right employees and partners to help me grow my business. Being an entrepreneur is terrifying, exciting, and rewarding at the same time.

NayNay’s Tacos – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
NayNay’s Tacos is a vegan taco catering company. We make several different types of vegan/ plant-based tacos. We are known for our crema it’s this magical topping that is similar to sour cream, but also so different from it that people who hate sour cream love our crema. My friends tell me they just eat it straight from the jar. As a company we are most proud of being diet friendly, plant-based, gluten-free, and soy-free. You’d think our tacos would be pretty boring once you take out all those things, but that’s far from the truth. What sets us apart from the other taco companies is that we put proper nutrition first and foremost. Being vegan benefits animals and the environment too, but we’re not here to preach about that. Eating well is about taking good care of yourself first and foremost.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success is being able to do what you love and make a living from it and making a little extra to be able to give back to community. Success is also having a strong support system of your inner circle of mentors, friends, advisors, and having faithful customers who support your products. Success is also being able to adapt to changing patterns in the market and being that company that is known for providing the best customer service no matter what.

That’s my baby! Stole my guacamole recipe… but I don’t mind. I judge everybody’s guacamole against mine and few measure up. She’s doing it right!

I just added some of her crema to my breakfast sandwich and it was awesome.
